Clarke is certainly posing some interesting questions regarding the Australian top order...

And I know that not many people seem to think this, but I still believe Justin Langer has something to offer in one-day cricket.
The trouble being that Hayden has outperformed Langer for 3-4 years whilst Langer is ahead in the las 6 - 9 months.

Asutralian selectors are loyal and, as such, Langer has got a long wait in front of him.

Besides which, in ODI, he is currently behind Hayden, Gilchrist AND Clarke (plus he is ordinary in the fieldand a totally annoying individual IMO).

As though those were the only relevant statistics in ODI batting?
Strike rate is a pretty big thing.

Say you have an opener who bats through to 30-35 overs every game for 50 runs.

Is that a good ODI player?

what was Hayden's strike rate and how many hundreds did he make though..
He made two hundreds and six fifties, one of which was in the 90s. Both the hundreds were against India (109 and 126), the fifties were made against Zimbabwe (63 and 87), India (50), Sri Lanka (93) and Pakistan (59 and 52). His strike rate for the year was a perfectly respectable 75.14.

He hasn't been in great form the last month or two, but to suggest that he hasn't performed in ODIs for "a couple of years" is absolutely ludicrous, as he was Australia's most consistent ODI batsman last year.

Yeah, its not as if Haydens been out of form for years. However, his SR and general aggressiveness in OD cricket is severly overrated and always has been, and now that he's got Clarkey breathing down his neck people are starting to realise.

How many games this year have been affected by rain? I'm starting to expect it. Bring all the matches over here, the players might cark it for the heat, but at least it wont rain...

Good to bring the points Liam but a look and Bevan's stats before being dropped can me more insightful

He had just one bad series in Sri Lanka and Australian selectors dumped him for a better option for what I think is a stronger team in 2007. So will they look beyong Hayden who isnt getting younger for 2007?

Hayden is known to be a fighter and he can come back strongly to criticisms by strong performances. But if he doesnt put up some huge scores in the near future, it wouldnt surprise me if they look at other options.

Certainly, if he goes much longer wihtout performing he will come under scrutiny. The same was true of Damien Martyn until recently. It is the suggestion that he hasn't performed for a long time despite the fact that he was Australias highest scorer last year that bugs me, not the suggestion that he is out of form.

Whatever it takes!!!
I was so disappointed that Friday's game got rained off. Had the windies won that one (they looked in control), it would have thrown the tournament wide open, atleast between Pakistan and the Windies. Now, the Pakistani side still have their noses in front.

Well since most of the commentators (on the radio anyway) were predicting that the match wouldn't even take place and would be a wash out, I think WI would be happy. Pakistan would have gotten 3 points with a No Result, which would have cancelled out WI's 3 points gained against Australia. However WI have one up on Pakistan, and the two remaining matches between them have become very interesting indeed.

When australian selecters have an agenda form means NOTHING. Just ask dean jones and michael bevan or even steve waugh.

Inzamam thinking about stepping down as a skipper!!!

Inzamam uncertain about his future as captain

Inzamam-ul-Haq: what does the future hold? © AFP

Inzamam-ul-Haq has revealed his doubt over leading Pakistan, a mindset that doubtless has a great deal to do with the rigours of the current tour. Inzamam's comments came in the wake of a tumultuous week for Pakistan, in which a rape allegation was levelled against one of their players.

"I am uncertain about it," Inzamam told The Sun Herald when asked about his future as captain. "There's been a lot of criticism in Pakistan about me. I am not feeling good on the inside and I am not sure whether it is something I want to keep doing."

After Pakistan were crushed in the three-Test series, where he missed two Tests due to injury, Inzamam had to contend with scathing remarks from various quarters. Inzamam admitted that it was the "hardest tour" that he had been on. "The Australian tour is always hard," he said. "The conditions are different and Australia is the best team in the world. But this tour has been harder than normal, especially for me."

Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain, had termed Pakistan's performance "spineless" and suggested that Younis Khan be given the captaincy. Pakistan are scheduled to tour West Indies in May and Inzamam said he would consider the future of his captaincy at the end of that tour. "I don't know why he [Imran] is doing this and saying these things," Inzamam said. "It is disappointing. It's not good for me and not good for the young boys in the team. Criticism is OK. But I don't think the performances have been that bad."

Well i have been saying since some time in this very thread that Inzi shouldn't lead the Pakistani side, now Inzi himself is so down that he wants to quit himself too.

I feel sorry for Inzi, but just how can he says that the performance of Pakistani team haven't been that bad ??? Is Inzi that dumb that he cannot realise how badly have Pakistan performed in this Australian tour? Sure 1-2 individuals have performed very well but the team as a whole has been pathetic.

I think if Pakistan loses to India in the comming test series then i have no doubt that Inzi will either step down himself or will be replaced as a skipper.

Fair enough on Danish but as far as Asim is concerned he a test batsman & why do you want a player in oneday side who would eat 100 balls and would score just 20 runs? just to slow the run rate?
Oh i see, some interesting stats there, but from where exactly did you get them? as far as i know Asim has not played a single OD match so far!!

Pakistan have atleast 5-6 big hitters in their team, they need a solid batsman who should consolidate their batting lineup (basically who should be a backbone of their batting lineup) If Inzi loses his way then who would you like to see replacing him? Younis\ Asim or Afridi\A Mahmood ??

yep that somes it up perfectly for me. personally i dont think youhanna has done anything astonishing that he deserves to be an automatic choice in both forms of the game, but thats a different story altogether.
Youhanna is a talented batsman, but you are right to say that he has been inconsistent. To be honest i think the guy is overrated, he has been in the team since a long time now yet haven't really performed consistently.

The reason he is an automatic selection in Pak team is coz Pak doesn't have quality batsman. He's the second best batsman that Pak have right now and is therfore an essential part of Pak team.
