there is no way you can blame the umpire...as if he would have been able to tell, the sound was clear as day, i have no idea where it came from but still it was there.
Right...but still unfortunate for Lara

Great ton from hinds. Superb innings. No it wasn't a run-a-ball 100 with huge sixes, but he's kept the WI innings together. His pulling has been magnificent. I was so happy to see him get that ton.

Keep going Wavell. :)

the reason that there was a sound was because there was something wrong with the handle and when he went for the shot it came out of place and making a small sound

well the umpire is not blind. atleast he is not supposed to be.
hearing a sound is no excuse, you have to hear the sound AND see contact.
enough times there is a sound of the bat hitting the pad ...its not like spinners get bat-pad dime a dozen.
There was a few INCHES between the bat and the ball.
Lara was robbed there. End of story.

that was a horrendous decision by the umpire....you could see daylight between bat and ball...the umpire got him...

where were the 'men' in Australia when they outlawed bouncers from the WI ?
Were the commentators 'men' enough to say that the umpires bolloxed up instead of trying to justify that decision ?

Anyways....what i said is a FACT. Lara was robbed.
I am not whining about it but i am pretty ****ed off about the incompetence of the umpires.

Youhana v Chanderpaul - about equal. Consider where most of Youhana's success has come.
Against WI? Against Walsh and Ambrose in their prime? Youhana is about as good as Chanderpaul in tests and Chanderpaul is better then him in ODI's IMO.

Comparing Pak vs WI

Butt vs Gayle - Gayle is a better batsman at this stage but Butt has the potential to outplay him in the future.
Akmal vs Browne - I'd give Akmal a slight edge since he can show patches of brilliance amidst extremely ordinary cricket
Khan/Hameed vs Sarawan - Sarawan by a long shot.
Lara vs Inzy - Lara though both these players dwarf all others in the team
Afridi vs Powell - Equal
Chanderpaul vs Youhana - Chanderpaul in ODI'S, Youhana in tests. [Though it is intresting to note that Youhana averages more then 55 at number 3 slot, from more then 40 matches which weren't all played against zim and bangladesh]
Razzaq vs Bravo - Razzaq, no contest
Azhar Mahmood vs Bradshaw - Again, Mahmood, no contest

Bowling

Dillion vs Akhtar - Akhtar
Collins vs Rana - About equal IMO
Bradshaw vs Razzaq - about equal
Samuels vs Afridi - Afridi by a long shot
Bravo vs Mahmood - about equal
Hafeez vs Sarawan - I know who I'd be picking
Malik vs Gayle - Malik slightly
Kaneria vs ?
If fit, Saqlain vs ?, Shabbir vs ?

On the whole WI team certainly isn't better then Pakistan though they boast a better top-order lineup. And Pakistan have a far more ballanced attack, specially if Malik gets cleared.

Gave something similar in 1999/2000 (Carlton United)- Ind/Pak Waqar to Tendulkar, no bat...just heard some sound

Not a bad effort by the Windies batsmen against typically disciplined bowling and fielding.

A pretty ugly effort by Hinds and still far too many dot balls, but he picked it up nicely towards the end and it was obviously a very valuable knock.

Gayle came out in blast everything mode and was never going to produce more than a quick cameo. He has only 2 speeds - stop and go - and in "go" mode his innings is often ended by a dumb, premeditated shot, as it was today.

Sars and Samuels looked classy, but suffered sloppy/comical dismissals. Shiv and Bravo played excellent little innings to up the momentum just when it was needed (though Bravo looks worryingly "bottom-handed").

The Prince, of course, was robbed, though "Honest" Adam - who had a great view - obviously saw a knick, so maybe the replays were misleading.

For god's sake, take that twelve year old crap somewhere else - it's embarrassing to watch. Anybody's got a right to take umbrage with that decision - it was just a flat-out bad one. Umpires make mistakes and Taufel did today.

Moving on...

Incredibly lucky innings from Hinds today - he really looked pretty ordinary throughout. I was thinking that the total wasn't looking so hot, but having Hayden and Gilchrist back in the pavilion at 2/12, I guess you never know. I'm still a bit surprised that Lara was so keen to bat first though, because I think the West Indians chase a fair bit better than they set targets in recent times.
