He has actually got one but it's just no bigger than your ordinary garden-variety pea.
Not only is he a chucker but he's a poser, a show pony and a bad actor (I'll spare you the obvious pun). I think I've seen him limping on the wrong leg he was supposed to have injured.
When the going gets tough, Shoaib gets a mystery ailment.
I don't like him.
So are the doctors posers (or quacks) too? He was diagnosed to be suffering from hamstring injury (grade one). But its true that the guy break down a lot (though he's not alone, there are others like in Bond who haven't played in ages) and he can be criticised for not keeping himself fit.

And i think it was hardly a tough match for Pakistan, nor was his illness a mysterious one.

And an exceptionally good performance from Akmal. I am not sure we will see this from him again though.
Even after watching a fantastic innings from Akmal i'm still of the view that Akmal should NOT open for Pakistan in oneday matches.

That was impressive from Akmal. Especially as he's been thrown in the deep end to open. Played well. Could see him vying with McCullum for world's best keeper/batsman soon. Oh yeah and...who's that Aussie guy with the wingnut ears?

So Akmal is now th best 8-) .

I liked Inzy's innings. Didn't even realize he had scored his runs so quickly! And only 4/5 fours.

He was seen on the turps somewhere during the last test wasn't he? I'm partial to a good session myself but I don't play international cricket and certainly wouldn't think about it in the middle of a test match where I was representing my country. If he took his job more seriously, kept himself fit, quit smoking, got rid of the mirror and shortened his run-up he wouldn't pick up these niggles and might be a decent player people respect. Not to mention keep his arm straight when bowling.
He needs a grow a ticker if you ask me.

Marc,

Of course I exaggerated a bit, that was on purpose. But I really have seen a lot of people harping about him here and there. I just want to know what is so special about him since I generally don't follow the WI's and he didn't live anyway near to his hype in the AUS match.

Akhtar smokes?

I echo Mr Casson.

Akhtar smokes? Haven't the papers picked up on that? Or is it a false alarm?

who do u think should open then?
Well, if Shoaib Malik can bowl, possibly bring back Yasir Hameed and have Akmal drop to 3 or 4? Maybe 5 I'm not sure. Either way I'm not too fussed I really like the current Pakistani squad. My current Pakistan team, discarding all injured Pakistani fast bowlers and on the assumption that Malik can still not bowl.

Butt
Hameed
Malik
Inzy (c)
Akmal
Youhana
Razzaq
Afridi
Mahmood/Kaneria
Akhtar
Rana

I personally think that with their batting line-up they can afford to possibly drop Mahmood and bring in Kaneria, who would replace the spin duties of Hafeez. Yasir Hameed could then open the innings with Butt, and you could slide Akmal down the order a little. Personally I think that's a fairly strong team, as long as Akhtar stays on the bloody park

I can't say the West Indies played that badly in this one. We just didn't (and no one did I think!) account for the Akmal factor.

Was pleased with Dillon's bowling for the most part though. He looked determined at the very least. Collins and Bradshaw both looked completely out of sorts though.

Having got up at 3am for Game 1 and stayed up until 4.00ish for Game 2 my body and mind finally let me down at the halfway point of Game 3 as I succumbed to sleep (I also nodded off for about half an hour of the Windies innings).

I’d echo the point made by others in the thread that West Indies really under-performed in the last 10 overs, having created an excellent platform at around 200/2.

It was key that Rana was able to quickly remove Lara and Powell – the 2 most explosive batsmen – at this stage, but I still think Shiv and Sars should have made 15-20 more runs.

I’ll have to watch highlights of the Pakistan innings tonight to make any informed comment on the bowling/fielding performance, but I’d be very interested to know whether Gayle was expected to be fit to bowl coming into the match. If he wasn’t, the decision to leave out Bravo was a real shocker.

Looking at the stats, it would seem that Pakistan were very clinical in exposing the inadequate 4th/5th bowler combination of Samuels, Sarwan and Hinds. I’d be interested to see how incisive the specialist trio were.

If Friday’s game is on the same wicket and Gayle isn’t fit to bowl, Windies must pick Bravo + 3 seamers. Should Gayle’s full quota be available, then Samuels/Sarwan could perhaps be risked as a 5th bowler on what will be a slightly worn surface.

Pending a look at the highlights tonight, I’d be inclined to go with:

Gayle
Marshall
Lara
Chanderpaul
Sarwan
Samuels
Browne
Bravo
Bradshaw
Dillon
Collins

I'll have to watch the highlights tonight to see whether I've been too harsh on big Merv. Did Collins get the ball to swing?

Great show by Pakistan. I am thrilled for Akmal. Whatever I have seen of him he is very impressive. Great move to open with him.

Afridi must have bowled really well to give under forty in his ten.

I just read that Mohammad Hafeez had his action reported as suspect after the match. Looks like he'll still be subject to the existing tolerance level requirements for spinners (5 degrees) in his remedial work, because the ICC doesn't meet to discuss the proposed changes to these procedures until next month (which is not to assume that those recommendations will necessarily be adopted...).
