The baffling selection of Dillon ahead of Pedro Collins, West Indies' best bowler of the last 12 months, may prove decisive in this game. Even by his own, often miserable, standards Dillon was insipid with the ball and lackadaisical in the field.

Other than that, some encouraging signs from the Windies. The fielding showed signs of improvement, though there were still too many fumbles and not enough accurate throws. Bravo, in particular, was superb both in the circle and in the outfield.

Samuels and Bradshaw bowled really well and it was frustrating that the commentators didn't point how much of a loss Gayle's bowling was. He would probably have bowled at the death and almost certainly done a far better job than Dillon.

Have to fancy Australia fairly strongly now, despite West Indies' batting depth (which is a bit of an illusion in all honesty, given Marshall's inexperience and Bravo's recent ineffectiveness with the bat). Brad Hogg could be a real problem on this wicket.

Marshall played a couple of nice shots..looks a good player for the future, but he's out & West Indies are 4/33.

Yep. But not exceptional. Windies are not in the league and thats another reason for the wickets..

Yes. The best he has bowled since he destroyed India at the WACA in the last VB series in the only good match he had that season.

Brett Lee started out pretty well against NZ last month but he quickly ran out of gas & NZ got on top of him.

There is no respite for the windies at all. If its not lee its gillespe then first change is kasper. West indies attack is club level compared to that.

I really hope we're not going to see the 1 man show of Lara all the way through this series. Players like Gayle & Sarwan really need to step up...especially if they're only going to play 2 specialist quicks & rookie Marshall in the middle order.

What the hell kind of field is this for Watson? Ponting is a disgrace; he has the Windies absolutely on the ropes and he's got too many people on the fence. How about some support, as in a chance to take some wickets, for a man who needs confidence in his bowling? He needs to be taken seriously by Ponting before he can ever become a serious all-rounder.

Watson is bowling 2 sides of the wicket which for starters doesn't help..but I agree, sometimes Ponting seems to take his foot off the pedal.

Im still not convinced about Shane Watson...but I guess he probably needs time to establish himself.
