*Official* Tri Series (Ind, NZ, Aus) Thread

John Wright has made comment of his fears of complacency in the Indian squad following their reaching the WC final - IMO the NZ selectors are guilty of the same malaise regarding their 'blind faith' in certain players who are not producing the goods, and in their persistance in selection tactics regarding player roles.

The lessons have not been learnt from the WC performances......

IMO.....stop screwing around with this preoccupation with "allrounders" - they aren't anything more than bits & pieces players who are neither one thing nor the other and are an each way bet without a regular return. IMO the reality is that they only appear to be allrounders as a result of necessity, rather than any genuine intention.

Time to start selecting genuine specialists with bat OR ball & get back to basics & consistancy. Similarly this so called stat regarding NZ batting down to 10 - when was the last time they did so with any command / consistency - it usually comes out of necessity / desperation.

Nevin - not a specialist batsman let alone makeshift opener. His repeatedly early demise not only provides no return regarding quick scoring (as there is none), but also provides no resistance / protection to the middle & lower order;

Vincent - yet another role in the ODI side - the excuse will be due to Astle's absence & the lack of another option to cover - but who's fault is that - not the players' but it is his career that continues to suffer. Any progress he made in the Test series has surely been completley eroded. Possibly being dropped from this OD side & being left to concentrate on opening in Tests could be the best thing for him;

Fleming - needs an opening partner who can rotate the strike on a regular basis without the need for Vincentesque adlib advances / dashes & dabs etc;

Harris - old war horse - still contributes in the field but past his use by date with bat or ball. At his peak could turn a game with either, but now struggles with both. Can use his experience to occupy the crease, but no longer able to accelerate his scoring to find the fence when needed;

Cairns - 33 & very injury prone - I can not remember the last time he was fully fit thru a series & was able to contribute on a regular basis. NZ selection still seems to revolve around him rather than his presence being an added bonus.

Oram - has looked more likely as a batsman in this tour in the ODI than in Tests. Perhaps his immediate career should be contained to the ODI arena (so long as he develops some variety to his bowling and is not asked to bowl 'at the death').

Tuffey - perhaps like Fleming he is trying to do too much as a lone hand and his form is suffering accordingly.

Mills - will not be a feature when Bond & Butler return to duty - lacks the pace & variation to warrant inclusion ahead of the others.

While this squad may be capable of reaching the final, IMO they are currently looking at a 0-5 score line for the upcoming ODI series in Pakistan. Perhaps then the selectors may bite the bullet, but by that time at what cost to the Test side?

:(

You can still beat India and get into the finals....

I've decided to be petty....

NZ keep losing to Aus so I would like to see Aussie give India a good old hiding to lift my spirits... so far 72-0 (10) ... could get used to supporting aus... so much less stressful. :lol:

maybe not, it's a bit of a naughty thing to do really!

if only nz could have these great attacking openers... wonder if we can mould Oram into one.. strapping left hander, turn him into hayden.

:lol: :lol: :lol: Haha this is hilarious, Australia are 93 off 12 overs! Looks like a repeat of WC 2003 is on the cards....:D 8D

I'd say Australia will need at least 280 on this pitch, this is the best pitch for batting on in the series so far & it'll be interesting to see how Williams, Kaspo & Bichel deal with the Indian batsmen.

Part of me wants to see India dealt to in this match, but then again I don't want to see NZ get annihilated in the final should they beat India in a few days time so meh I give up lol.

India have been awful in the field mind you...the ground fielding has been some of the worst i've seen in recent times.

Better than getting annihilated without making it to the final! :D

Oh bugger Haydos is gone:( :!(

Don't worry we'll still win. Gilly will make another century. Its all good.:)

Gilchrist monstered his first century against India off a mere 94 balls with 13 4's and 1 six.

Current score: 193/1 off 32 overs. :O

If you do the double the score after 30 overs and that's roughly what you should get........doesn't bear thinking about.

PY

International Coach
Gilchrist nelsoned on 111 off 105 balls.

Ponting has been strangely subdued....hasn't hit a boundary yet. Was probably playing second fiddle to Gilchrist but I guess we shall see.

HELLO!! WC FINAL ALL OVER AGAIN.

Ponting was 27 off 55 balls at one stage with 0x4 and 0x6 now he is 99 off 98 balls with 1x4 and wait for it 6x6!!!

Current Partnership between him and Martyn 132 runs, 14.5 overs, RR: 8.90.

all Indians must have nightmares about these two.

Australia 347/2 (50.0 ov)
Gilchrist 111 off 104
Ponting 107* off 103
Martyn 60* off 49

Z Khan 10 overs 67 runs no wickets
A Nehra 10 overs 80 runs no wickets

Sachin, Shewag and Ganguly need to match those scores IMO if India are to have any chance.

Superb batting by Australia. Thouroughly enjoyed it :) and hope that India gives them a fight too. BTW, great to see the crowd applauding the Aussies too .

Let me start my first post on this board with props to Australians. They truly are a few notches above all other teams. What a batting performance! Shoddy fielding by Indians definitely didn't help their cause.

With a weakened Aussie attack, Indians should at least be able to put up a fight.
