but i don't see how you can call it open...djokovic is almost as prohibitive a favorite this year as nadal was in past years...
If Nadal won would you be totally shocked?

Its basically 2011, with Novak going in a stronger favourite, and with us knowing that players like Stan and Roger still a threat on the right day, and who the **** knows what Muzz is capable of now.

I'm getting a bit Wimbledon-2008 feel as well. (Although RF then didn't have quite as suspect form as Nadal this year)

Fun from yesterday

it's so not 2011, nadal has never been as vulnerable (mentally) on clay (or on any surface for that matter), stan can't beat novak at rg, neither can andy, not this year anyway...the only difference between rafa of earlier years and novak this year is that roger doesn't have the psychological disadvantage against novak that he obviously has against rafa (even with his uncertain form, rafa will still beat roger handily if he meets him)...but roger will have to play his very best (and avoid rafa) to reach the final and challenge novak, i would obviously love to see that but realistically i don't see it happening, even if he reaches there, anything less than spectacular and novak will grind him into submission...

Did you see Stan beating Novak in 2014? Did you see Nishi beating Novak and then Cilic beating Fed on the same day at the US Open?

Plus, Rafa has still never lost a 5 set clay court match to Novak.

I agree Novak is heavy favourite. But he's not a shoo-in. If you're a tennis fan and not excited about this tournament then I really don't understand when you will ever be.

did you see how invincible novak has been since late last season, did you see what he has done this clay season vs what rafa has done? in 2011, if i remember correctly, rafa was getting to finals and losing to novak (maybe one loss to federer on one of the faster clay courts...?) before the french, he was not losing to tom, dick and harry on clay...also i specifically said that stan and andy can't beat him at rg (wasn't talking about all surfaces), do you have any stats that show they can? your point was that this was a very open tournament and i said novak is almost as prohibitive a favorite as rafa was in his prime years...having a prohibitive favorite doesn't make a tournament less exciting for me, we can still have plenty of wonderful matches and spectacular upsets...

Hahahaha Federer's draw

random R3 (Ivo is not making it through 2 matches on clay)
Monfils R4
Wawrinka/Simon QF
Berdych/Nishikori SF

Not going to make the final though.

What stats showed that Cilic could win the US Open though?

I take your point on 2011 vs. 2015, but this is still more open than 2011 in my book.

Sampras made the semi at the end of his career at the French. Will be interesting to see how far RF goes.

the cilic win was one of the few exceptions we have had in the big 4 era, you know that as well as i do...you really cannot use that as an example to make your case here...in 2009, lightning struck rafa at the french in the shape of soderling, did that make the french open "open" that year or the next?
