The really amazing thing is that Hewitt is an excellent player, and really he played quite well. Not at his very best, but certainly good enough to beat just about anyone, and about as good as he has played so far this tournament to cruise past everyone else. He runs into Federer, and loses in straight sets. Amazing.

the super swiss faced only 1 break point the entire match...which of course he saved...hewitt is just not in the same league, especially on grass...

Given that Hewitt actually successfully broke Federer, that's clearly not true.

at what point? i started watching at 4-3 in the first set and i didn't see any breaks after that...and the third set went to a tie-break on serve all the way....brad gilbert commented that there was only one breakpoint against federer in the entire match...that's what i was saying...

Hewitt broke back after Federer broke him in Hewitt's first service game.

Anyway with the Roddick/Johansson match delayed due to rain, channel 9 are showing classic Wimbledon rivalries. At the moment its Borg vs. McEnroe. My God this rules

Its your wish to follow a sport or not as is Navjot Sidhu's. But discounting a sport over all giving reasons like women would lose to mens and rank 500 501 is silly.
Not if you read all the post.

Now they're showing Rafter v Agassi 2001 Wimbledon Semis. Boy was that a classic

Only thing they can do better now is show the final, Goran v Rafter. :D If that happens I'm getting my VCR ready.

Regarding finesse etc you have got Hennine, Cljisters and Schnyder, and so many others and frankly every one has a different game.
but the top players except for henin-hardenne are all about power...even she had to beef up her power in the last couple of years to compete with the pure-power players...i think the last player that depended just on finesse was hingis...and look what happened to her...

But is it a legit reason to bash a complete sport.

i am not bashing it...i watch women's tennis and i like some of the players, but the fact is that the quality of play is much much less compared to the men's...and there is a lack of finesse at the top of the women's game...

So you agree with the 500 501 reasoning then. 8-)
Yes - if you want to watch power Tennis, there's lots of men who can play. To me the 500 501 is just a touch of hyperbole.

There is a flip side. Womens tennis was hardly competitive earlier. Now there are many more players who can give competition and not just one or two players like it was the case earlier.

Power has come into the mens game as well. It is an aspect of tennis as a whole and not just the womens game. You may feel people like Williams and Sharapova are all about power but they are much more talented tennis players than that. A agree power has come in and people are right to complain about it. But to bash a complete sport just because of that is unnecessary in my opinion.

Exactly. Such a good point Pratyush. Power has come into tennis as a whole.

Bjorn Borg and McEnroe didn't hit the ball with anywhere near the force as Roddick, Safin etc. hit it today. Not even close. Why aren't we getting on the back of the men's players? Why can't Serena, Mauresmo or Sharapova smash a thundering forehand down the line?
