Too bad though about Sharapova.
She is young and will only learn from the experience. A very good player, she should have many more chances to repeat her triumph of last year.

Exactly. Such a good point Pratyush. Power has come into tennis as a whole.

Bjorn Borg and McEnroe didn't hit the ball with anywhere near the force as Roddick, Safin etc. hit it today. Not even close. Why aren't we getting on the back of the men's players? Why can't Serena, Mauresmo or Sharapova smash a thundering forehand down the line?
i think the point that they are trying to make is that when it comes to power tennis, men have shown themselves to be much much better than women, i don't know whether the 500th ranked man can beat the top women players, in fact i doubt it very much, but the gulf in level of play is indeed vast....so the question was that if you want to watch top quality power tennis, why would you watch the women?

Also I read some where Federer has won 20 of his last 20 finals which is obviously a mistake considering he lost to Safin in Australia and hasnt won 20 titles since then!
He lost to Safin in the semi-final. It was just so intense that it seemed like a final. Safin then beat Hewitt for the title.

Can some one verify if Roddick's win loss in last 3 years on grass is 32-2, with the two losses to Federer on grass?

Federer was able to break Roddick back. He almost broke him immediately after he was broken, and then managed to break him the following game of Roddick's serve. Amazing.

Roddick serving to stay in the set.

Roddick saves 2 set points. Good effort. Hopefully we get a tie-break, and see an exciting end to this 2nd set.

Roddick not putting the ball away when he gets on top of a rally, lost count of how many times he's had a smash and then Federer has drilled a passing shot by him.

Federer wins the 'breaker.

In the Open Era only 2 people have won 3 consecutive Wimbledon's. Bjorg and Sampras.

Federer's won 2 and is 2-0 up.

Federer wins the tie-break, and goes 2 sets to 0 up. They're off the court for rain now, shouldn't be too long. Federer definitely in the box seat, Roddick really needs to learn to volley well. He really does.

V.Amritraj making an interesting point that its much tougher to learn to come towards the net for Roddick if he didnt learn to do that when he was 17,18,19 properly.

Funny how they are just showing random people using their cellphones for the past 7-10 minutes from Wimbledon center court :D

Is it just us poor souls watching the BBC that have to put up with some complete muppet going 'hm' after every other point?

that's just a generalization....he is only 22 and 17, 18, 19 is not etched in stone....with his huge serve he should come to net much more often...i think that it's good that he stuck with that game plan till the end even though he was passed mercilessly again and again......if he improves at the net, he will become a much bigger threat on grass and the faster hard courts....and in the process become a more complete player...
