What does it matter that Flinftoff isn't a spinner? The point is, he's an all-rounder and allows you to play an extra batsman. Vettori simply isn't good enough with the bat to allow you to play another batsman (especially in a World XI), and his bowling is pretty poor. Those figures you've shown comparing Vettori to Kumble include 11 wickets at 13.73 against Zim, and 20 at 11.20 against Bangladesh. Against proper teams, he's been very average.

Flintoff is a genuine allrounder and can fill the 3rd or 4th seamers roll depending on balance of the side and can bat at 6 or 7 and have the same devestating effect. Vettori is a 'bowler' who can bat very well. Not really the same flexibility as Flintoff. You wouldn't see Vettori in a World XI top 6 or 7. 8 at best.

don't u think it's better to go for a guy who can bowl well instead of going for a guy who can bat and bowl a bit.

One must not forget that both Zimbabwe and Bangladesh have test status and people should perform against them as if it were the world champs. I would be worried if he did not perform against them.

That would be fine if he wasn't much more than mediocre against proper opposition.

The bottom line is that Vettori is in the team because of his terrific bowling / batting against Australia in the previous 12 months and so was high on the list to be in the team, and deservedly so.
The bottom line is the selectors have made what is almost universally agreed as a huge ****-up - well actually it's a few ****-ups!

And the award for most selective posting of stats ever goes to...

Vettori's bowling is 2 games vs Bangladesh - 20 wickets @ 11.20, 5 games vs Australia 18 wickets @ 41.00.

Kumble's is 2 vs Bangladesh - 10 @ 14.40, 3 vs Pakistan - 17 @ 37.88, 2 vs SA - 10 @ 34.10 and MOST IMPORTANTLY 4 games vs Australia - 27 @ 25.37.

The inclusion of Flintoff is utterly irrelevant,

based on recent form I have to say Dan Vettori gets the nod in my book.
Because 18 @ 41.00 is great form isn't it?

Heck, even Giles is getting numbers not too dis-similar to that against Australia.
