Honestly I think Kumble should have been picked over Vettori !!

I know all the big hype about Vettori's batting, but in a 6 day Test I would pick a spinner who can take wickets and who can trouble the opposition and a proven wicket taker with over 400 test wickets any day over a spinner who adds depth to the batting at No 8. or 9 !!

I can see why they picked him. I would have picked Kumble but Vettori has been picked to support murali

A very relevant and important Question !!

One - Dave Richardson - who has a lot of Clout being part of the ICC now for a few years !!

That also explains Boucher's selection over Sangakkara, Smith's selection as Captain over other better candidates in the Team (despite a pretty average couple of years in the Captaincy role) and the naming of Pollock who doesn't even currently Captain his own country in ODIs after the inability to make good a World Cup in his back yard in 2003 !!

Am I the only person here who thinks this Team was selected not with the intention of winning but with the purpose of getting smashed by the Aussies !!

My Prediction is England in the Ashes will do far far far better than this World XI will ever get to with such key selection mess- ups .

Besides John Wright has been made coach of this Team as well !! :D

I think he will be happy to come second best to Australia given lack of Kiwis in this Team and his loyalties must be with Australia rather than the Rest of the World !! :D

I agree with you 100% i keep saying that, pollock and smith captians? it is some kind of joke, and why on earth would you pick Boucher over Sangakara, I will have no interest in this super series anymore

I agree with bharani in the 1st post. Boucher is a surprise pick, especially against the spin of Murali. Also Kumble should definitely have made the squad, he took 8 wickets in an innings in the 4th test against AUS at the SCG last year!

Pietersen is a great young player, but his selection over Inzamam and Dravid is mind-boggling! ROW needed another reliable bat in the middle order, with Sehwag and Afridi in the team.

And Vaas should have made the ODI squad as 1st choice seamer. He is unlucky there.

ROW XI is going to lose the test. I mean, Boucher keeping to Murali!

Even Sagakkara has problems keeping to Murali!

RIDICULOUS selection!...everytime i hear stuff from my mates abt Inzy, Vaas, & Sangakara exclusion...it just ignites me up from top to bottom & then i m back here to bash, but bash for the just!
have players like Gibbs, Pietersn, & others at any point in their cricketing careers played like inzy for their respective nations. infact have they ever played quality cricket as inzy.

all i can say is selectors are big idiots who go on price tag of a product rather than the qulity of the product

KP needs to be in a world ODI 11. Gibbs needs to be in jail. Very surprised about Inzy and Sangakara's omissions, but hey life goes on.

IMO Pieterson is a ridiculous selection. He is not the world's best number 4 or 5, he is just a young bloke finding his feet at international level. Like others here, i agree that Inzamam should have replaced him hands down.

It screams of product rather than quality. An increased English viewing audience, so what?

If KP is one of the top batsmen in world cricket, then i obviously know nothing about this fine game.

Silly me.

Agree with all of that. And I am really not sure why Smith and Pollock are captains.

Smith I can understand - out of those chosen. Lara has proven to be a poor captain, Tendulkar is quoted as not enjoying the captaincy - even if that was referring to the long term, he was no tactical mastermind. But the thing about Smith is that he is a leader of men, and when you take a side like the one you have here, that's probably what you need - someone to create a bond between the players, not really the captain who is adept at the details and nuances of the game.

Pollock is harder to explain :p

Well, basically, I thought that even Vaughan might have made it ahead of Smith as a player alone and therefore, I expected him to be captain. I still think Dravid would probably make a better captain than Smith, but like you said, at least, this is, to some extent, understandable. Pollock's selection as a captain is just a joke.

The only other wicketkeeper apart from sangakarra who could have kept wickets to murali is taibu i think he is a fine keeper in matthew haydens onslaught he let through just 1 bye and it was incorrectly called anyway, in 700 and whatever runs 1 bye. True Sangakarra should have been picked i know kumar he is married to my teammates cousin i live in sydney he came to one of my games a great guy and i am so disapointed for him because i like him a lot hes a good fellow. Only a few months ago that joke of a fellow who likes listening to 2pac shakur before a game thami tsolekile was keeping wicket for the proteas. i love 2pac shakur but unfortunatly not tami tsolekiles keeping ability, and even he was ahead of boucher in the pecking order politics or not. Boucher is sub par with teh bat and sub par in keeping standard to taibu none our as well grromed to do the job as sangakarra however. Obviously because of his experience keeping to Murali.
Chris Gayle should have been in the one day squad ahead of shewag how much is he a michael slater in onedayers avereging 25 in the last 12 months just over 30 in his career ridiculous selection. His test selection is completely warrented. I would have had Abdur Razzaq instead of harmison in the onedayers, wonderful allround cricketer who has hit mcgrath for five fours in an over let me remind you. And you have to have inzi in there for gibbs as teh captain for sure. in thesets aswell dravid can open with shewag in a one off test why not he has a wonderful technique best in teh game row dun need greame smith, kallis at 3 tendulkar at 4 (he is teh little master after all) lara at 5 inzi at 6 as skipper u need consistency teh same skipper for both sides anyway. this is what it should look like im going to 2 one dayers in victoria and the test i know u want my tickets but u cant have them ahahahah. just kiddin.anyway my teams
TEST
1.Shewag
2.Dravid
3.Kallis
4.Tendulkar
5.Lara
6.Inzi(C)
7.Sangakarra(WK)
8.Flintoff
9.Vetorri
10.Akthar
11.Murali
12.Harmsion

Oneday
1.Tendulkar
2.Gayle
3.Kallis
4.Lara
5.Flintoff
6.Sangakarra
7.Afridi
8.Razzaq
9.Akthar
10.Ntini
11.Murali
12.Pietersen(supersub)

Let me just saykp has played 21 matches had 15 innings and is still averaging 88 nearly thats unbelievable its not like mike hussy who had a similar avearge after 4 matches but u best bet hussey wont be averaging that much agter 15 innings whats even more flattering for kp is that his runs have come against lee mcgrath pollock ntini. deserves his place no question about it. hes in form and against the aussies why should he play.
