It will be interesting to see what side australians pick, at the moment i would have to say aussies are favourites, Smith against Ponting? well lets see....i just dont think smith has enough expereince at that level.
This may seem a little confusing but I believe the tactical side of Smith's captaincy is very poor (he is usually a couple of overs behind the game despite what Mike Haysmen says) however he is a very good leader of men i.e. can get other players to play for him. Maybe that is what the selectors want a captain who can get these great players (and big egos) to play together for one cause.

So 31 Tests as captain isn't enough then?

Ponting has 16.

for the sake of public interest Sachin Tendulkar has to play regarding his performaces over the last 2 years, plus how do you know is elbow injury is incurable, thats weird mate :p
I would've thought the public interest will be there regardless.

well its seems as if Freddie's injury is curede now but i'm not sure if you remember on the last day of the last test when he was bowling at the stretford end where the crease had a whole he didn't risk bowling at that end because he knew that he could cause that injury to rear up again.
So it had nothing to do with the fact that he couldn't get a proper footing from the hole, so he therefore would've been ineffective from bowling in it?

I can sense a little bit of Edgbaston about this, with all the talk about the "spinning wicket". As someone has mentioned elsewhere, I'd doubt Sydney will turn a whole heap in Spring-time for us. It tends to become more appealing to the spinners the longer the season goes on, while providing a fair bit of assistance to the seamers early in the season.

Mind you, probably still worth going with two spinners, because Aus have traditionally struggled against high quality spin.

why not now marc???
Because (rightly or wrongly) Marc believes that Tendulkar is batting well enough to be in the World XI. Right now, it would only be for the names, as opposed to the best two batsmen in the world batting together, as it would have been three or four years ago.

Whatever it takes!!!
I still think Sachin can regain his form. I watched his two innings at the Eden Gardens and he batted as well as he has ever done. Trust me, if he is in THAT kind of form, it will be a real pleasure to watch him.

BTW, I do agree selecting him when he has played no cricket for such a long while is not very smart.

In that case, the Rest of the World won't mind letting Ricky win the toss :D:D:D:D

They shouldve gone for Inzamam or Dravid over Gibbs. There are enough batsmen already to provide excellent starts, but none with the ability to provide the middle overs solidity that these two do.

Does this mean that Inzy won't get paid (there were rumours of 100 grand a man) and if that's the case, will he just turn up anyway because the lunches are free?

How many South Africans were on this selection panel?
A very relevant and important Question !!

One - Dave Richardson - who has a lot of Clout being part of the ICC now for a few years !!

That also explains Boucher's selection over Sangakkara, Smith's selection as Captain over other better candidates in the Team (despite a pretty average couple of years in the Captaincy role) and the naming of Pollock who doesn't even currently Captain his own country in ODIs after the inability to make good a World Cup in his back yard in 2003 !!

Am I the only person here who thinks this Team was selected not with the intention of winning but with the purpose of getting smashed by the Aussies !!

My Prediction is England in the Ashes will do far far far better than this World XI will ever get to with such key selection mess- ups .

Besides John Wright has been made coach of this Team as well !! :D

I think he will be happy to come second best to Australia given lack of Kiwis in this Team and his loyalties must be with Australia rather than the Rest of the World !! :D
