Funnily enough.

In that 7 role in tests. For each of Santner and Macewell. After seeing their respective career best perfromances (so far) with the bat, after each of them I was less convinced of their worth/abilities.

Santner after his hundred v England when he could/should been out 10 times to the short ball.
Macewell after his 70 odd not out v Pakistan, when he coulda been out 5 or 6 times to wahthisface's wrong'un.

But at least Macewell looked better after passing the first shakey 20 to 30 runs. Santner looked just as vulnerable on 100* as he did on 0*.

Big problem for me is Macewells 4ish RPO in tests. If we are getting that sort of leakage, I'd probably just go Sodhi. And pick 6 batsmen. (Assuming, as said above, the end of our old ball seamers is upon us)

Bracewell is more of a Sundar than Rohit Sharma though.
Sundar averages more than 5 times more wickets per FC match than Bracewell. There isn't even the vaguest comparison.

This is the whole point. Bracewell might have all of a sudden become a bowler in the last year or so, but prior to that he wasn't a bowler at all. We are currently in the process of figuring out whether this batsman who suddenly decided to bowl is actually any good at bowling.

Typically this isn't something you do with a 30-something year old guy at international level.

On topic. I watched the highlights of Macewell's innings this afternoon, so the boundaries basically ..... That was some knock.
Some times, I'm a little underwhelmed by some 200SR innings. Modern bats, The highlights are an array of miss-hits etc. But that was some clean hitting, plus perfectly executed ramps etc. Pretty much a 360 degree innings. I'm impressed.

Yeah this. They’ll be set on using Macewell in CdG’s role, and while Macewell could match CdG’s batting output (though must be said, much more of limited overs player than CdG) he will simply not be able to replicate those controlled spells which Lord Colin specialised in.

Some innings that, which begs the question why there's been doubts about The Mace on this forum in particular.

Said it a number of times now, but love the depth he gives us with the bat, with Santner dropping down to 8.

Feel for the Shipley lad, but why they tried this guy out in SC conditions is just beyond me.

Chapman for Nicholls, Sodhi for Shipley & Dougie for Tinkner need game, unless it's a seamers deck.

To think we came close to winning that in spite of those horrendous selections is phenomenal.
Shipley was NZ'S best pacer yesterday. Got 2 wickets and had 2 catches dropped earlier including 1 off Gill.

Yeah, like "random batsman who bowls part time offies gets picked as specialist bowler ahead of test 10fer taking spinner" isn't something you just expect fans to let slide at face value. We're all justifiably gonna be like wtaf?

Likewise 'the same randomly picked batsman gets spammed in all formats by very conservative selectors' is going to get some strong questions.
For last mos or so Bracewell regularly picked wkts as spinner.

Nz can count on him for WC as Dependable All rounder.

With Sodhi/Santner in the team Bracewell will be pick as "Impact player" very helpful in lower order batting department, his spin ability is your bonus

Why do NZ have to look at other spin options right now? They have 3 quality spinners in LO who can all bat right now in Santner, Bracewell and Sodhi. But it is a concern in tests yes, but Sodhi and Bracewell have been a decent partnership there and it is anyways all about pace in tests for NZ.
You guys not need spinner in SENA country unless you travel to Asian sub-continent, even sodhi gets bench regularly & Santner in all playing xl.

That's a shame, Wheeler was an absolute talent but will forever be remembered for the yips. T20 was not his format.
What's happen to Bennett, he was successful for NZ during 2020 tour
Virat always struggle to finds his Length.

You guys have to play more ODI at Raipur ( International debut)(sat) & Indore >650 runs wicket there .3 t20I next.no test.

Than NZ will be in Pakistan for 5 ODI & 5 T20I

HNY Lads... been a while since I posted. Life has gotten busy and thought will never be back online discussing cricket but there you go now have a break from work for a bit.

Super stoked at the last inning from Bracewell, have to say that is one of the very best one day knocks I have ever watched and I've watched a lot of cricket. He's making it a bit of a habit of late. He's turning into Maxwell, Pandya, Stokes zone of late. The frequency at which he picked the gaps was phenomenal. Santner has improved his batting so much too, he is now looking like a near proper batsman. More like a no.6 or 7. Phillips at 5 (I think he still needs to improve his range particularly off side and straight, he could be tied bowling one side of the wicket slightly fuller), Allen at 6, Bracewell at 7, and Santner at 8 will do for me for the WC later this year. Finn Allen of late has given up on his USP and trying to bat time which is taking away his ability to put pressure on the bowlers. I'd rather have him at no.5 or 6.

Would love to us move on from Nicholls, he's just not offering much for quite some time now.

As for debate about test spots, we have to get used to seeing white ball players making the test sides now rather than strong PS players. That is the direction NZC has taken. You will see more and more t20 players making the test side in future. Tough luck for proper red ball players but that's the way it's rolling.

Steady and Larsen have to be commended for spotting the ability in Bracewell, don't think too many thought of him all that high. In fact if he wasn't a captain for Firebirds he would have lost his spot in PS. He did hog the bowling while captain but got to tip the hat off to the man for achieving something that most thought impossible i.e. make the black caps side, to go on to play all formats and to make a successful career out of it. Highly likely he will have a terrific t20 league career in the next 4-5 years. It's quite a story and likely will be the most famous Bracewell of all time.
