Happy for Bracewell , hopefully people get off his back on this forum , man gets criticised for no reason when he's had a very good start to international cricket as an all rounder especially in white ball Cricket absolutely outstanding player.
There's certainly been reason for the criticism, especially in Test cricket. It's early days, but 25 with the bat and 45 with the ball isn't getting the job done in that format. I think most of us still think he's not worth the investment in Tests. He's got to bat in the top 6 and deliver on that, for me.

But yeah, his limited over efforts - remarkably with the ball, more so - are outstanding. He looks, bizarrely, like he is going to have a career similar to Nathan McCullum, and they are very different players. McCullum wasn't an ODI/T20 wicket taking machine but went at 5s in ODIs and less than 7s in T20s, and did a very fine job. Bracewell is doing the same. Bracewell clearly has a significantly bigger upside with the bat, and both his ODI hundreds have been rearguard, insanely good efforts. It's a very nice thing to have at No.7, a guy who can hit, play big innings' and bowl very well. Obviously his ability to do that consistently over time, we'll see.

I dunno if it's just me willing it back into existence, or the glut of ODIs my country has had...but I've found a lot of fun in the format recently. Again, dunno if it's me, but there seems like a bit of momentum in the format running into the World Cup this year. So good to see guys being able to properly exhibit their skills, rather the proliferation of the same old boring franchise T20 **** we get.

I still think we have to be very careful of the 'JAMODI', 'dying format' 'boring from overs 10-40' stuff and what we might lose if it goes.

Some innings that, which begs the question why there's been doubts about The Mace on this forum in particular.

Said it a number of times now, but love the depth he gives us with the bat, with Santner dropping down to 8.

Feel for the Shipley lad, but why they tried this guy out in SC conditions is just beyond me.

Chapman for Nicholls, Sodhi for Shipley & Dougie for Tinkner need game, unless it's a seamers deck.

To think we came close to winning that in spite of those horrendous selections is phenomenal.

It's OK to doubt Bracewell, and I think there's still some doubt...feast and famine so far in his career (apart from the ball, in limited overs). He does give us depth in terms of talent, but he has to continue to deliver on it.

Agree in part on Shipley...although only in the sense that we won't be able to judge him on what he does here. If he was the next best cab off the rank, and I've made it pretty obvious I think he is, then it was absolutely OK to pick him. Is Doug probably better suited to do a job over there? Yep, I'd say so. But Shipley was in red hot form, they picked him, and happened to be touring the sub-continent.

It's a joke that Nicholls is in this side. I like the guy, he's a good person and has done a lot for us over the years. But he's not going to offer anything to this ODI side.

People would’ve had zero problems with Macewell’s selection if it had been for the LO sides, he had an incredible season for Wellington in the super smash last year, and he’s just the sort of player you want for a sub continent World Cup. Plenty of people on here were calling for his selection in the T20 World Cup for example. But his test selection remains unjustified, and it will continue to frustrate fans unless he manages to significantly improve his performances.

Farrrrrk that's a knock. This series is a good trial for the wc and that's a great audition.

Shipley came back very, very well at the death. A level above our other quicks in that period.

Yeah the disparagement of Macewell's call up was due to the selection of a struggling fc middle order bat who bowled part time as a #8 bowling allrounder in tests and dropping the 10fer guy after 2 overs.

That was certainly a call, and they deserve credit for seeing someone they could improve but that particular team balance was insane and England exposed it.

Macewell has actually been underselected in LO imo. Obviously shouldn't have a played a test though lol. What a knock!

Latham is an amazing captain. If we take either of those catches off Gill and we win.

It is fun just watching Tom to see what he will do next.

NZ will take momentum from this game into the next.

Yeah, nah. There's more to the general Macewell reaction on here among NZ posters than just 'white ball, ok, red ball not ok'.

I'd hazard a guess that if you were to look at a thread a time of his selection for his debut white ball squad v Netherlands there would have been disparagement.

It's impossible to pick out a 'general' opinion when it is made up of individual opinions, though.

If Athlai (founding member of the New Zealand Spinners Contrarian Society) is in his camp, you can surmise the anti-noise must have been louder than warranted.
