Does it also mean then that whichever of the 2 makes the Team will be the Supersub ?
I'd imagine so. They may even keep Astle as SS again and swap Flem with either How or Marshall. Who knows what bracewell and co selectors will do.

Marshall misses the cut. The good thing to see is that Vettori has now won his last 3 ODI's as Captain.

Why does Murali's shirt say Muralidaran? Is that how you pronounce it, or does Muralitharan not fit?

Maybe it's a shout out to fatboy Smith's crappy ad.

He should wear a Murali-diddlely shirt in honour of Tony Grieg.

The other good thing to see is that NZ haven't needed the likes of Cairns, Oram, McCullum etc to do the bulk of the scoring. Someone in the top order is getting a big score and the others are playing their part too.

It's an unfamiliar sight in NZ cricket to actually see our top order batsmen doing the job, but long may it continue.

hear hear, IMO the best thing that is happening now in the top order is the good competition and number of contenders.

Jayasuriya was a late withdrawal from the second one-day international at Christchurch. "Sanath was reaching for his shampoo when he slipped and fell in his bath," Michael Tissera, the Sri Lanka Team manager said
I wonder what would have been damaged if he had dropped the soap...

Only 11 have done it in Tests:

Benaud
Botham
Cairns
Hadlee
Imran
Kapil
Pollock
Sobers
Vaas
Warne
Wasim

Of those, only Cairns, Pollock and Wasim have done it in ODIs as well (although Streak retired 10 Test runs short of the "double double double")
But Kalis could join soon. He needs another 13 test wickets (before the current test) and then maybe Vaas who needs 298 ODI runs.

Pretty good side. Marshall's would be a tad lucky , but i suppose he is worth 15 runs in the field.

Risking the toss a bit with Bond as SS though
Not really. If you happen to lose the toss and Sri Lanka elect to bat, you would simply sub Bond on for Marshall immediately, much like England did with Anderson and Prior against Pakistan.

It wasn't that great an innings from Astle, his strike rate wasn't great and still struggles with the pace bowlers when they bowl straight to him. One wonders if the match would have finished earlier had McCullum been promoted up the order.

Marshall is looking very good, and I definitely would not drop him at all.

A match-winning 90, after being dropped and struggling for from, is a great innings however you look at it. It was a steely innings and demonstrated how much Astle wants his place in the side.

Apparently, it wasn't enough... They just had the team on the radio and Astle is out.

Interesting that Jeetan Patel is back in the side. I suppose its a good test to see how he goes against good players of spin.

Astle's innings wasn't the best, but when you are clearly out of form like he is right now..you take anything and he'll breath a huge sigh of relief after sticking out and reaching 90*.
The key for Astle now is to go back to Canterbury and follow up that score with some more runs.

I have always been a fan of Nathan's. They have essentially replaced someone with 15 ODI centuries, with someone who averages 25 or so in ODI domestic cricket. weird selection.

Considering the above, I think the Sri Lankan Team management are stupid not to get a replacement IMO.

It would have been an ideal opportunity to bring any one of the 3 potentials in Michael Van Dort, Chamara Kapugedera or Ian Daniel with a view to giving them a go at Wellington or Napier.

Mubarak and Avishka are an absolute waste and sooner they are dropped the better .
Yeah I agree, I don't know how Jehan "mu nang hari barak ne?" Mubarak keeps getting selected. Politics I guess, like everything else in SL. If Avishka comes to Australia, I'm going to literally throw bricks at his ******** face from the boundary as he goes out to bat, hopefully leaving him unable to ever kit up for Sri Lanka.

Seriously those two idiots have to be shot.

That guy (Avishka) must have a very strong and intensive involvement with someone in the selection panel/SL Cricket Board !! :D :D (you know what I mean  )
