Why bring Patel in?

Why drop Astle instead of Marshall?

Marshall is young and obviously Bracewell is trying to get some of the young guys a bit more experience as the squad for the World Cup is developed.

Although I wonder if the Interview Nathan Astle gave Brian Waddle on Radio Sport, regarding his previous dropping and his form after yesterday's ODI ****ed Bracewell off, and had an effect , knowing how very temperamental Bracewell can be WRT these sort of things.

Great stuff! I didn't think of that... the question has to be asked. Fleming at 3 for the next game? I see her batted at 3 for Wellington today.

Bandara is not IMO a run restricting spinner like Chandana. A bit like Malinga, being more useful and appropriate for the Longer version of the game than ODI's.
I think it was a big mistake leaving Chandana and Dharmasena behind.they really could've come in handy.

Anyone going to the game on Friday? Because if you are, you could get a massive printout of that picture by Steds of Vettori doing the haka (you know, this one, I'm sure Steds won't mind), give it a nice lame caption like "Dan the man" or "The lionkiller" and you'd be a dead-set certainty to win the banner competition .

Then, you could throw in a few plugs for CW when Richardson gives you your MP3 player.

Then why bring him on tour and leave Chandana at home?

He should definately play, IMO.

That'd be so awesome.

I'd do it, but there aren't any games in Auckland.

I could just email it to them with a bogus message about how I was going to go to the game with this awesome banner but a mystery illness tragically kept me at home...or maybe it could be that a sudden gust of wind blew it into the harbour (it is Wellington after all)

Chris Martin and James Franklin both in the squad now after Mills and Oram ruled out for rest of series.

My XI: 1 Fleming (c), 2 Vincent, 3 How, 4 Fulton, 5 Styris, 6 Marshall, 7 Cairns, 8 McCullum, 9 Vettori, 10 Franklin, 11 Bond, SS Martin

We will probably try and bat first, while SL will likely want to chase this time round so it works in our favour. Sub Fulton for Martin in the second innings.

Its a Day nighter . So any Captain winning the toss will be keen to bat first , rather than chase unpredictably under lights a score (going by past games) over 250 + .

This is another selector's folly.

Chandana played in ODIs in India but quite correctly was kept away for the Tests , but he is an ODI specialist :D . And it was silly of them to not pick him for ODIs while picking Bandara (who is at this point in time more suited to Tests).

But having said that until they try him out they will not know , and if they feel they need another spinning option at Wellington(depending on how the pitch is on the day) on top of that offered by Murali, Dilshan +/- Arnold then they should pick him.

Unpredictably? That 'rule' doesn't apply in NZ. Let me remind you of the recent CH series where NZ chased over 300 in D/N game.... 8-)

The pitch in Wellington is flat, and will play very well. We should score over 280 if we bat first.

Bracewell is an idiot. Once again he has proven it. We have the series wrapped up and so when an injury arises he decides to go back to players who are proven failures in the one day game. The Franklin selection I don't mind so much because he is young but Chris Martin is not a ODI bowler. Why not pick that guy Aldridge and see how he goes. We have already won the series so this is the best opportunity they will get to blood guys in.

Picking Chris Martin is like Australia going back and picking Andy Bichel. ( Admittedly Bichel is a much better player but age is not on his side so Australia disregard players like him ).

Chris Martin must have moved very close to where I live, because I've seen him walking his dog past my house a number of times.
Bigger than I thought he was actually.

But yeah, looks like we're still scraping the bowling barrells right now...Martin really isn't the answer for us in ODI's.

Good to see some batting form in the state shield though...Nicol, Papps, Taylor all getting big scores.

Replacing Oram (an batting all-rounder) with Chris Martin. That seems very strange if you ask me.
Couldn't we have tried someone like Canning, Yovich or even a bolder in Pasupati?

I actually think there could be a place for a guy like Martin as someone who can give us 7overs at the start and take 2-30 the tak,e him off when the ball starts getting old and batsmen start getting onto his bounce...hes not bad with the new ball in most conditions and we can afford to cover his appalling batting umm "skills". Another wicket taker can never hurt?

Certainly wouldnt bowl him at any other time though

Good to see at least one Sri Lankan getting on top of the Kiwis . :D

Is Pasu Sri Lankan is he? lol lets not pick a SL to play vs his own country, I
wouldnt trust the bugger :p

On that subject...Ive often wondered WHY...with the amount of Pakistan/Indian/Sri Lankan etc NZ born and immigrants here why none of them have risen through the cricketing ranks to represent NZ? (with the possible exception of Dipak who I think is Kenyan)

I know its a diff population etc but England has had heaps, come on you buggers pull your weight if your gonna live here! :P

We'll have one Dravid and one Ahktar please. k. thnks

Yes I agree with you, is a little strange. The same with Maori and Pacific Island cricketers. Wasn't the last one Murphy Su'a?

Why?

We don't really need another all rounder in the team espically with the amount of batting depth we have at the moment. OUr lower order will still have alot of strength to it if it is
7 Cairns
8 McCullum
9 Vettori
10 Franklin/Bond/Patel

There is no need for another all rounder.

He is from a well known Family of Doctors , this guy is the only one who has ventured away from the family tradition (of Medicine) and into Cricket !

Although I do not know him , I know his brother (well known Auckland Dentist) and Most of his Family (ie Paternal Uncles) are all Family friends . (Hailing from the same part of SL ie same Village in Jaffna as my Father ) :D :D
