Well yeah I guess that's true. If all this I've heard in regards to the Vaas/Jayawardene vice-captaincy issue is causing so much problems, then I guess the damage caused by that would outweight the possible damage caused to Sanga's own game if he was made captain. I still think he's a special player that should be comfortable with being captain, keeper and #1 batsman before it is done. He's the only option though.

Good start to this match by SL. Vaas and Perera striking removing Fleming and Vincent respectively.

Man Fulton looks great.
Anyone think he might've been a better choice for a NZC contract than Chris Harris? ;)

I'm sure the match fees are a step up from what he's used to living on, but I feel quite sad for Fulton that the tags he was given (a test-only prospect, back foot issues) appear to have cost him tens of thousands of dollars. A handful of guys who are paid to know their cricket clearly failed him IMO, and it's ironic that one of those recently told the public that we are the ones who all lack foresight and basic knowledge.

Fulton not making at least a couple of scores against the Windies would seem unlikely, so as far as the next test XI goes, lets just hope they won't now give him the "Hamish wants to bat 3, Flem wants 4, Scotty wants 5, Lou and Nath both want 6....open or get lost!" treatment.

Vaas was amazing in his last spell at the death. Lovely bowling. Full and straight and pretty much won the game for them. I thought Murali's missed runout and Sangakkara's missed stumping would cost SL the match and give NZ the whitewash, but Vaas saved the day.

Fulton was great though, and his run out changed the match really.

Nice for Sri Lanka to get a win. Severly weakened NZ lower order meant that the chase would always be difficult.

We needed more from McCullum.

I thought Cairns would get into it a bit more but o well. Well played Sri Lanka . I really didn't like what the commentator said on radio - "Thats a great shot by Cairns, Hes given him out!" thats kind of annoying :D

Its a bit hard when hes so low down the order and only bats once in a blue moon

I could only see Dilmah(sp?) match summary and to me Fulton looked a bit like a Right-Handed Chris Gayle but i am not sure since i havent seen him bat properly yet.

No he is not the only option. Murali who is the most senior player in this side with 90+ tests and ODIs would be an option , but I cannot see Murali being given the Captaincy in Sri Lanka's current Political situation.
( BTW Murali I think has Captained his FC side Tamil Union for some time, but that's irrelevant )

The bat was on the line in that run out and it was extremely tight . I have seen those given against SL and some of the other Teams, (particularly in Australia) but on this instance the 4th Umpire decided it was unclear and gave the benefit to the home side. :)

Given Gary Baxter's poor umpiring in the series, I was pleasantly surprised when he finally gave the LBW against Cairns !! (given the player's profile and the game situation -I was even more surprised that he did give it !! :) )

What, missing one extra batsman (How ) severely weakens NZ lower order does it now ?

You played 3 ODIs where NZ got maximum benefit from the Super Sub (by winning the toss and getting in an extra batsman ) and then on the only occasion you lose the toss and the opposition benefits from the Super Sub - you are suggesting NZ was severely weakened !!

Now , now come off it .

You were beaten by the better team on the day .

No Sri Lankan would say after the First 3 ODIs that SL was the better Team.

So on the day you lose, you must be man enough to accept that the better team won on the day . ;) (Particularly with some brilliant death bowling)

Brilliant batting from Fulton though. And it seems in him NZ have a discovered a brilliant batsman who IMO is suited for both versions of the game .

I hope he gets his Test Cap in the Windies series.

Hats off to Vaas for a brilliant bowling performance at the death.

Bandara bowled well, but I still have doubts over him WRT how he will fare against some of the strong batting sides across the Tasman in the VB series.

Chandana may have been a better selection for the VB series. We shall soon find out.

The Sri Lankans really needed this win badly and as they head to Australia , they need to lift their performance or face being smashed by 2 of the stronger Teams in ODIs .

8-)

I guess you didn't notice that Styris, Oram and Mills were missing too huh?

He hasn't even played a single Test match. Bracewell pointed out he's vulnerable against the short ball, so I guess we will find out soon.

You can only 11 players in a Team . OK with Super sub you get occasionally a chance to use 12 which Black caps used in 3 ODIs .

But you want 3 more - thats 14 players !! You've gotta be joking !!

Why did NZ play there suber-sub they would of been better to have extra batter than Martin,And How proberly would have been a useful bowling option today imo

He batted at 6 there was plenty of time for him to play himself in and get a score
