I have a point to make. The Supersub has to be an all-rounder otherwise you will end up with the mess like last night where Jamie How didn't even get to bat and Chris Martin wasa there to play a brilliant innings. My Choice - Chris Cairns (if we are really desperate for a bowler or for batting at end of innings)

I would go for Cairns as the supersub, as he is in serious danger of being dropped again unless he shows some consistency with the ball in the State Shield. He overuses the slower ball, and like Coney said, it would be interesting to see how many runs he goes for his change up deliveries, because they have been bowled very poorly. I have never rated his slower ball. He takes a few wicktes with it...whoopi-do...anyone who bowls it that often are bound to take a few wickets. Cairns bowls it too often, and lately, it's been 2 or 3 an over, and in the death, around 4 an over which is over the top. He needs to bowl a good line, because that's what his role is as a bowler.

In comparison, Styris' bowls 'off cutters', and his accuracy with them is far greater than Cairns. We need to make better use of his bowling, and I would like to see him with being used as the 5th frontline option with Astle as backup if neccessary. So would mean Cairns could be used as the supersub, able to contribute with both bat and ball in both situations.

I thought Franklin bowled well in his second spell, and was going to end up under 4 an over after 10 but for an unlucky last over where a few edges flew to the boundary in that PowerPlay over. Seems to bowl better without the new ball, but his seam positioning still isn't perfect yet. Interesting to note he inswung the ball into the lefties which restricted the SL's scoring.

Possible XI: 1 Fleming, 2 Vincent, 3 Astle, 4 Fulton, 5 Marshall, 6 Styris, 7 Oram, 8 McCullum, 9 Vettori, 10 Mills, 11 Bond, SS Cairns.

Occasionally I would replace one of the batsman with Jeetan Patel if it is a good wicket for Spinners. Its hard who to decide to get rid of though. A possible replacement if Cairns is Dropped - Joseph Yovich anyone agree?

Yovich is even more inconsistant with ball than Cairns is.

He is expensive but he does tend to take quite a few wickets so im not certain about him. His season so far has been good.

look, the NZ lower-order had an off day. 8 or 9 times out of 10 they'll usually come through and thats fine with me because most other countries don't even expect their #9, #10 & #11 to gather more than a combined score of 20 runs or so.

I tried to go to a Napier game in the hope that the jinx wouldn't know I was there.

But no.

It is now nine years since I have witnessed a victory.

LOL, 9 years is it Ed! That's just crazy!

By the way, what does everyone think of Vettori as captain? I see he only took one wicket in the series at a cost of 167 runs. Was this due to the Sri Lankan's being good players of spin or was it due to too much pressure being put on him as captain? I've always been of the belief that bowlers don't make good captains for obvious reasons.

Yeah 9 it is...the only win I've seen was a 2 run win over the might of Zimbabwe, with a team that included the likes of Llorne Howell.

Been to 11 games since and seriously considering not going again.

As for Vettori, his bowling in this series was disappointing although in one game he had figures of 0-22 didn't he? And he threatened at times yesterday I thought. But not the best series for him.

I rate him highly as captain though, I noticed Fleming yesterday included Vettori in almost all the discussions, and actually left him on his own to set his own fields when he bowled.

You come up with some quite bizarre insults.
Everything you come up with is bizarre.

Such as Oram and Mills not being part of the NZ lower order? And how Bond was playing in the CH series?

Captaincy hasn't hindered Vettori's bowling at all, the Lankans have played him well.

AS for Yovich, he's one of the most expensive bowlers on the domestic circuit, so no thanks.

I really felt sorry for Astle in this series...first being left out then brought back and again being thrown out and so on.He's still a world class batsman and I hate to think that he's way past his best...and I expected the NZ selectors to deal with him with a little more consistency.

But it was really good to Bond running in and bowling fast consistently...and God he has turned into such an eye candy! :D
