It'll be interesting to see how they handle Bond. On one side they will be thinking that they won't need to risk him against Zimbabwe, but if he does play South Africa then he will need a decent build-up of bowling before they play S.A

I think you'll find that he'll play 1 test & probably 3 or 4 ODI's against Zimbabwe.

Yes they have. Neither of them have the potential to be good test bowlers.
O'Brien played 2 Tests and Mills have play 3 Tests. If that enough games to rate them on, then be my guest. 8-)

I heard he was only targetting the zimbabwe odi series first and then get into the tests vs sa.
I read it in one of the papers.

I think mills and O'brein do have potential ot be good bowlers, mills is more of an odi specialist though imo.

Mills can't even get his ODI bowling right. He wouldn't make a full strength NZ ODI team

I think 3 ODIs and a tour match, most likely aganist a stronger team the Zimbabwe will be enough before the Tests aganist SA. BTW do they play the Test before the ODIs aganist SA.

NZ firstly play 2 tests v Zimbabwe, then play a triangular ODI series with Zim & India. And then I think they play 5 ODI's against S.A followed by 3 tests.

Not if Helen Clark has anything to do with it

i just have a look at the NZ Fixtures it looks like the African tour isn't until September. Have the changed the dates or is this right. Cus if it is right then Bond will have penty of time to get fit and may even go to Sri Lanka first with the A side.

Nah they'll go...but not before we hear 2 months of moral issues vs the fact that the NZC will be fined a potentially crippling amount of money if they don't tour.

Sir Redman

State Vice-Captain
After slogging through four assignments + three tests at uni in the last week or so I've finally had a chance to catch up with all the posts here (still unable to watch any cricket though). It sounds like we're doing pretty well - but something I havent been able to find is how fast we are scoring. With the current state of our team I have a horrible feeling that we are going to bat way too long and not give ourselves a chance to win. I think we need to bat quite quickly and reach 500+ and declare (hopefully) before stumps tomorrow. I dont trust the weather at all and I certainly dont trust our bowlers' ability to run through SL again

Firstly it was Rob Donald from the Green Party & then Helen Clark gave her thoughts this morning on the Radio.

We're just warming up...

Full strength NZ odi side as picked by psxpro

Fleming
Astle
J.Marshall
S.Styris
H.Marshall
J.Oram
C.Cairns
B.Mccullum
D.Vettori
Mills
Bond

Or have I missed anyone?
Maybe harris in for mills on pitches that suit him.

Definitely not Mills in there.

In your side you have Astle and Styris as the 6th and 7th bowling options, I would be tempted to include another batsman in there, like McMillan who hasn't got a bad ODI record over the past year or two.

* very inconsistent batsman. An average batsman at best I'd say. Certain not a "truly good middle order batsman". He averages about 30 there.

158 runs in his first 2 innings @ 79.00
407 in his next 19 @ 22.61
173 in his next 2 @ 82.50
228 runs in his last 12 @ 19.00

Now he's 79 not out and we await to see how he follows it up.
That form would suggest 1 good knock then another 8 or 9 poor matches!

Maybe Cumming he seems to be a fast scorer :p

To be serious i think Vincent is also a option they could look at in the ODIs. He looks a better Test Batsmen but he looks capable in ODIs, he seems a lot more mature then when he first played for NZ.

I reckon guys on the fringe like How, Fulton, O'Brien, Butler - should be positively found county contracts to play county cricket in the off season - that will help them become better players when they make their eventual Test Debuts.
The problem is, the counties wouldn't have a clue who they are, so would be very unlikely to sign them up.

Besides, I think most counties have their quota by now (or are not seeking any more if they haven't reached their quota)

Darrell Hair is producing an interesting pattern when it comes to results for certain teams. In matches that his umpired that involve Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa the W-L-D ratio is this:
36 (W), 23 (D), 18 (L) W/L - 2

Then in matches that involve the other teams (not including Zim and Ban):
8 (W), 10 (D), 21 (L) W/L - 0.4

Maybe some teams play better with him umpiring then other, or maybe it something else 8-) .
