International Debutant
Notwithstanding there was poor batting from Sri Lanka (especially the openers) that innings was great quality entertainment.

Apparently the next two pitches will be pace friendly too. Pretty sure ishant has to come back in now which gives kohli a chance to drop Bhuvi overseas.

Pandya is being rested for the first 2 tests. This series would've been ideal to see what he had to offer with the ball on seam friendly wickets, so what the decision is far from ideal.

International Coach
Anyone but Ishant ffs. Even Bumrah over Ishant would be good. Even Pandya.
Not too confident on Vijay Shankar. Though he has chipped in with few good performances here and there for TN, hasn't done anything amazing, especially with the ball.

Shankar's selection just makes certain that Ishant will play. Such a ****all backup to have.

Ishant is a perfectly fine backup option. He'll relish a greentop and he never bowls truly badly anymore, he's just painfully unpenetrative on anything other than a greentop.

The problem isn't that he'll be selected. The problem isn't that he's the backup, it's that the selectors will have the perfect excuse to replace Bhuvi with ishant in the overseas tours if he does well.

Nah. No one is that dumb. Not even them. Bhuvi's pace is up. No excuse to drop him.

But seriously time for Bumrah to be the backup. Ishant can be the next guy.

I was just checking to see why Bumrah hasn't been able to find a spot in Gujurat's XI when I noticed this bloke playing for Rajasthan.

He's 52 years old, used to coach Delhi and retired in 2004..

Im 99% sure this is a case of the scorers picking the wrong Sanjeev Sharma from the Cricinfo database, but I want to believe a 52 year old made a comeback after 10 years out of the game (his last match having been for India Snrs) and proceeded to bowl 36 overs and bat at 10 and then 5.

What a legend.

The dude is from Rajasthan, not Gujarat. Not in their squad either though.

Coaches ? RCA

Sanjeev Sharma listed as one of the coaches here. Maybe he took the field because there was no 12th man and someone got injured although I highly doubt that's within the rules.

We must get to the bottom of this.

Even if he did play due to a last minute injury crises, why the **** was he taking the new ball and bowling 36 overs.

Doesnt even seem the case of them wrongly attributing bowling figures to him, since the other bowlers all bowled a lot of overs as well, and the part-time overs were bowled by actual part timers.

Cricinfo reports make no mention of this...this is so bizarre.
