Somewhat bemused as to why Plunkett hasn't bowled yet... anyway hope the changed ball does something in terms of swing.

Change of ball. Looks like a chunk was sliced out of the old one. Hoggy back on. This is the crucial partnership for mine.

What's the prognosis on the wicket?

I read somewhere that Atherton reckoned that England should be able to make 250 on this wicket. Also, that is was likely that because of the sunshine the wicket would just get flatter and slower but not deteriorate in a marked manner. In other words, that it would be good for batting even in the 4th inning.

Is that highly likely? If so, the batsmen will need to make 300+ to give Murali and the bowlers all the runs they need.

Either way, whatever the outcome it's been a good series.
Certainly better than anyone anticipated.

The English know that to become the best team in the world, they have to win other series besides the Ashes, right? I'm looking forward to the Ashes as much as anyone, but if you lose or tie every series except the Ashes, you aren't the best team in the world.

Who said anything about being the best side in the world?

I think even Inspector Clouseau would have been able to work that out.

Couple of quick strikes from England to remove Sangakkara and Jayasuriya, and we're back in the game. 152-4 now, needs a good effort from the SL middle order (for once) to put the game back in their favour - another wicket or two soon and England will be favourites for mine.

SriLanak needs few runs now, to give murali more runs to work with in the 4th Innings, but the recent fall of wickets will assure some confidence in the English side..

I presume it's something to do having to keep things tight.

:). The reason I say that is because everything I read in the media, or hear in the commentary box is someway related to the Ashes. The ashes are undoubtedly the most important event in the English calendar, but you DO have to focus on the other series in the meantime.

Right on cue Plunkers strikes with his second ball back! Wide half-volley that moved late & Jayawardene played a very loose shot to. Sort of dismissal more associated with our top six...
