Lara's batting never suffered from captaincy pressures. He thrived on it. Indeed, he was at his most effective as captain.

As captain:
4026 runs @ 59.20
11 hundreds
13 fifties
3 ducks in 72 innings

As civilian:
6068 runs @ 49.33
15 hundreds
28 fifties
10 ducks in 125 innings

Congratulations on Brian Lara on his big score.

If he goes on to 200, it will be his eigth score above 200, and put him to out right second place for most 200's in his Test career above Wally Hammond. Although at his age I don't know if he will get to Bradman's total of 12 double hundred's.

Brilliant Lara. If anyone still doubts that he's the most talented batsman in the world they deserve a whack over the head. :p 159* out of 281 gives him 57% of the total. Probably not going to beat the record of 67.35%, but phenomenal nonetheless.

Blimey - is that the most made runs as captain?

He is the most talented no doubt and brilliantly great batsman as well but imo not the best in the world.
Whats the score btw, hasn't the 2nd day started?

Alan Border played 93 Tests as captain, so I'm inclined to think it's not.

Edit: Border: 6623 @ 50.94.

How is the pitch playing so far in the match, particularly this morning? Is there going to be anything in it for Collins and company when the West Indies get out there later?

I'd love to see them take this test, to cap off Lara's brilliance.

Settle down junior! Browne needs to make his first test 50 first...

6 for Ntini! Whoa!

Interesting stay at the crease by Powell I guess. :D

Pedro didn't help much. :(

Last over: . . . . 4 1
Hopefully Lara can keep doing that every over, King is unlikely to last long.

Uh oh, King has to negotiate an over from Ntini now...

Negotiated successfully. :) Lara charges Ntini for four to go into the nervous 190s.

103.6 Ntini to King, no run, full ball, on leg stump, King chips it just over short midwicket, wants a single, sent back by Lara... Hehe, silly Mr. King.
Lara just a hit away now...

Just to continue the pattern: :(
That's 7x200 and 2x190 for Lara now.

347 should be enough to give WI confidence in the field. Obviously the key will be Kallis - he's scored 8 centuries in his last 8 Tests against WI or something ridiculous. Hopefully the four quicks + Gayle will do the job properly.
