*Official* South Africa Tour of the West Indies, AUGUST 6th to 26th, 2024-- 2 TESTS & 3 T20Is

Ha! It's like we've gone the opposite way after having Jansen at 7 when we felt like we went in with a batsman light.
Conrad has had way too many inconsistencies in selection, Muthusamy was randomly chosen at No.7 then discarded , Jansen was the new no.7 , then De Swardt was the no.7 and actually does okay with the 2 tests he gets but gets dropped..

In his first squad he decided to back Klaasen as the main keeper which lasts a series , Verreynne gets the gloves and according to cricinfo for this test Rickleton now has the gloves ..

Elgar forced to retire , Brand comes in as captain for the NZ series and then gets discarded completely..

Conrad can't say that NZ series meant nothing in terms of squad selection because Piedt got in the squad over Harmer who hasn't done anything wrong to lose his place as 2nd spinner, and Paterson has managed to find a place in the current test squad ..

Burger takes 11 wickets in our last series played but is now warming the bench despite Nortje, Jansen and Coetzee not being part of the current test squad yet Medium Pace Mulder gets a place at no.8 ..

Oh and Stubbs gets a Debut on a horrible pitch and now he's our new no.3 ..muddled thinking !

Still feel Verreynne deserves some lee-way too. He is a better gloveman than Rickelton. Many are calling for Rickelton to replace him as wk bit I like the fact both are playing here.
According to cricinfo Rickleton is keeping. Ofc that could be wrong but if they're right I can't say I'm a fan of a specialist #7 bat when good allrounders are available

BBC has verrynne as keeper. hope someone knows.

Stubbs at no3 does seem a bit optimistic, i guess it was bat there or not play. For windies fairly tight bowling
in the absence of the joseph twins.

Very optimistic considering that this is Stubbs first official red ball game since February..

Only Bedingham and Mulder have played red ball cricket in the last 2 months in this South African test side.

He scored his SA A hundred in Sri Lanka at 3 too.

Personally would go Bavuma 3, Bedingham 4 & let Stubbs ease in but maybe this has been lined up for a while & Conrad is just genuinely backing him there for long-term planning & considering we play such little test cricket. He was talking more about Stubbs' psyche being prepared for the challenge.
Scary to think that tour was over a year ago, so in about 14 months since that knock he's had zero opportunity to bat at no.3 before today, these players have their work cut out for them with such a lack of preparation.

Bedingham is his own worst enemy, he's got that KP syndrome where he kind of thinks he is too good to get out playing these Hollywood shots ..

Rather disappointing we haven't made starts count. Guess that comes with no red ball cricket for a long long time.

I read an article about him where he said he re-evaluated his life after he was in a bad car accident. Cricket is a part of his life, not his whole life kinda mindset. He has a really carefree style of batting though. Love to watch it!

Yeah he's brilliant, it's a shame he had to wait so long to play for SA but better late than never ..Want to see him in the odi side aswell
