Was I the only one who found it pretty disturbing how hard the 3rd umpire (not to mention our mentally challenged commentators) found it to determine that Shehzad had taken a completely friggin obvious catch off Guptill?
That kind of thing worries me because a 3rd umpire should know what a catch looks like. Shehzad caught it about 8 inches off the ground ffs!

The question was whether he grounded it went into his hands, though. There was obviously no doubt that it didn't bounce; that wasn't the issue.

I know. Anyone with eyes could see the ball didn't touch the ground. My point is it was a regulation diving catch where he caught the ball way above the ground and then his hands touched the ground with the ball in it.

I thought the catch of Parthiv Patel in the fifth SA-India ODI was pretty obviously grounded by Du Plessis as he hit the ground. Was very surprised that people didn't criticize that decision more at the time.

And for the World Cup he could be the key in the middle order....i so hope that Misbah fails terribly in the next 3 games and gets dropped out tbh...if he stays in the middle order there is no way we will put up big totals in the WC.
The trouble of dropping Misbah is that it only leaves you with one player who can hold the innings together- Younis. All other players are very attack minded, and if there's a batting collapse the only one you can fall back on is Younis.Whereas Misbah is no Afridi,he does have to ability to hit big shots. That hasn't happened off late though.I hope he finds that touch back instead of getting dropped.

that why I am pushing Umer Akmal to be givin that role might be the making off him as a batsman batting in pair with Younis may also help him the current role is pushing him more towards the Afridi route.

a very good suggestion indeed.......unfortunately Umar Khatmal lost his brain before he attained puberty

Umar doesn't seem to have the temperament to do that IMO.His natural game is very attacking.I'd like it if he moves up the order and keeps on with his current style.Making him mellow down would only hamper his natural instincts and do more harm than good.

Another option could be to give Azhar Ali a chance in the ODI side at Misbah's expense. He might be your run of the mill test player, but maybe he can do well in ODI's as the rock in our middle order.Plus there's also Asad Shafique. He slipped off my mind during my earlier post.I think he is one player that can be slotted in at Misbah's expense.

Shahzad
Hafeez
Younis
Umar
Asad
Kamran
Razzaq
Afridi
Wahab
Gul
Shoaib/Tanvir

Plus Azhar Ali can be given a permanent role at no.3 when Younis calls it a day.

I think that was because he was bowling into the wind.
He was bowling the same speed into the wind as was Southee when he bowled into the wind.

Then when he went down wind his speed barely improved.

Bennetts extra speed = myth. Plus he bowls wide of the crease and was sending most deliveries down the leg side.

If the wind is too strong, wouldn't it be hindering his action whichever way he was bowling? Especially with such a front on action?

Bull****. When Bennett swapped ends he went from 128-133, up to 137-142. Regardless of how well he bowls, Bennett is the fastest bowler in the side. Not that fast mind, he's probably, at most, only 5k's faster than Southee on average.

As for their relative speeds bowling into the wind, Southee's is a lot more side-on than Bennett's, and involves more arm speed, as opposed to Bennett who generates a lot of his power from his chest and back. It's not surprising that Southee was less affected by the gale blowing through than Bennett was.

Let it not be said that I'm definitively stating that Bennett will be a great bowler. I'm making no claims of the sort. I reckon, come World Cup time, he'll get mulched. But to suggest that Bennett isn't the fastest bowler in the side is silly.

Correct me if it wasn't the case, but I'm dissapointed in Williamson playing another stuck-in-the-mud innings. Sure he'll start ticking over more smoothly with a bit more experience, but it is worrying he hasn't got through this problem right before the world cup.

So creating drag at the front on position was dropping his speed by that much? He runs in harder and faster than Southee - I would assume that whatever loss in his action at the crease is offset by the speed on approach to the pitch.

Anyway, it's all a bit of conjecture. What I read into how the commentators talk about his pace is that he is considerably faster than anyone in the team - and that is the main reason for his inclusion. Sure he may hit 142 but his average speed is more likely to be about 138.

Not sure where anyone has said he isn't the fastest in the team. Who said that?

Agree with you about the World Cup - Bennett will lilely get a pasting as will Southee if there is no swing. Oram will probably be the most successful due to his accuracy and height. But I don't think the pace bowlers will have the impact that the slower bowlers will have.

TH you seemed to have been missing during the first ODI, IIRC.

Reckon Hamish Bennett is fine, just don't bowl him into the wind:laugh: sure he wont be a world beater but no one in our team is. Think there was actually a few positives from this game, Jamie How showed form, Timmeh still looks in good nick as does Guptill. Taylor is a worry and Styris didnt go too well. Woodcock bowled quite nicely. The game was actual a lot closer than the score suggests, we just ****ed up in the last 10 of each innings, so our death bowling is still an issue. The way people are going on you'd think we lost by 200 runs. We were trying out players so its not like our WC team lost anyway. However I still reckon we will get shown up in the SC with our inability to rotate the spinners in the middle. Lets hope that the prepare roads for the WC.
