*Official* - Pakistan in New Zealand 2010/2011

If Pakistan is serious of developing Umer Akmal as a batsman then he should be given the responsibility of batting @ 3 where his role should be to glue the innings together and then hit out in the final overs with Razzaq and Afridi, he has shown the ability of rotating the strike and play the gaps his current role will make him go further the Afridi way and he will end up as an Imran Nazir. Also sad to see Ahmed Shezad turning in to a generic basher the guy looked so technically solid 2 years back but now he just looks to stand and deliver, batting coaching in Pakistan continues to disappoint.

I wouldn't make any predictions about Pakistan, if I were you; you just never know with them. They are as likely to beat Australia by two hundred runs as they are to lose to Ireland. It is this unpredictability of theirs that makes them so exciting to watch.

And for the World Cup he could be the key in the middle order....i so hope that Misbah fails terribly in the next 3 games and gets dropped out tbh...if he stays in the middle order there is no way we will put up big totals in the WC.

Oram you wanker.

Game over.
Glad the filter did not edit this moment of truth out...

Oram's inning was typical Oram. He should be dropped down the order.

Woodcock can't be judged on his batting inning as he probably was nervous.

Pakistan's catching was just excellent. They either have a new fielding coach or really you have to question whether their previous fielding last tour was rigged.

Suspect Woodcock might be fairly 'nervous' if he gets a game in the World Cup too!

Probably too early to conclude, but if Oram is going to bat as badly as he has in the last few years then he needs to come in round about 9 or 10 in the World Cup (possibly after both Mills and NcCullum). We all know how poor he is against spin too. I still like his bowling in sub-continent conditions though he'd be picked after Southee, Mills, Vettori and NcCullum.

Oram's batting is particularly a problem, since Vettori in the lower order can be equally tricky to position because of his similar strengths and weaknesses. Something like Oram at 7 and Vettori at 8 is undesirable - they're unlikely to score quick runs when we need them and tbh Oram is unlikely to stick around if we need to recover from 5-down.

Also that run out of McCullum - Oram called the run when he was the striker and it went behind square.

I was just reviewing the scorecard...if McCullum had've come off...that game could have been quite close...provided that Oram had've either hit out or gotten out relatively early in his inning.

Rotation I guess.

We need a second spinner for the World Cup and he's it - I'd say he's more or less guaranteed a place in the best starting XI

Yeah, absolutely. That run out was the turning point in the match I think.

As others have said, you simply can't bowl Mills at the death of an innings and I'm sorry to say but Bennett hasn't impressed me one bit from what I've seen of him. Given our bowling options, I would have thought Franklin would have been a better selection over him.

When we're back to our number 1 selections I would bowl Vettori and Styris at the death.

I think we are expecting a bit too much of the Black Caps though. This Pakistan outfit has a lot of experience and on their day are very tough to beat. This was also IMO the weakest NZ ODI lineup I've seen in a long time.
Agreed - Bennett has been pretty average. Gets no real movement either in the air or off the pitch. Has been brought in because he has more pace than anyone - yet was still bowling mid 130's. Boult would offer tonnes more. Franklin to replace Bennett is a complete joke however.

I think that was because he was bowling into the wind.

Pretty silly in itself though, really. Bring in a bowler with a mediocre domestic record because his pace might translate better to international cricket, and then bowl him into the wind so he's the same pace as the other bowlers. Nice.

what the hell is going on the heads of the selectors in nz cricket. nz were there own worst enemies yesterday. why was oram in team he hasnt played in a year and has a average of 4 this season in domestic cricket. well the bowling he got hit and hit with his lollipop balls. why wasnt. ryder and macca need to bat up the order. nz cricket a joke at moment form all levels.. a big turning point in match was when stryris went out why didnt they use the powerplay then

oram has to go hes a joke and broke
what the hell happened to jeetan patel our best spin bowler getting left in the dark again.

Was I the only one who found it pretty disturbing how hard the 3rd umpire (not to mention our mentally challenged commentators) found it to determine that Shehzad had taken a completely friggin obvious catch off Guptill?

AWTA..It was amazingly obvious that he had his fingers under the ball, I had no idea what Doull was making a fuss about.
