For anyone who hasn't heard of Yasir Arafat or seen him bowl he's incrediibly short for a fast bowler (around 5'8/5'9), he predomanantly tries to bowl a full length and can occasionally swing the ball in the right conditions, he's also IMO a little bit quicker than your average medium-fast bowler, he can also get the ball to "skid" because of his height and low action. Whenever I've seen him bowl pace wise (3 or 4 times) he tends to start off in the low 130s (approx 81/82mph) but can later on in a spell touch the early 140s (87-89mph). If the pitch isn't condusive to seam or the overhead conditions to swing I'd doubt if he has much effect.
I think he can be effective in other conditions, and I don't think his height should be much of a problem. If anything, it could work to his advantage, as the change in trajectory could unsettle some batsmen.

And that's the fallacy. Laxman was made to open a lot of times and because of which his average suffered. He averages 48 as a middle order batsman.
OIC.

In any case, the fact that a number of Pakistan bowlers have been able to get him cheaply though, would give them a bit of a mental advantage.

Read in the mornings newspaper that Gul bowled many overs to Butt as part of practise. Seems he over worked and he got injured. This is ridiculous!

Was outbowled by Asad Ali in his last first class match.. :p
well not that bad

he got 2 in the first and 3 in the second well it isn't that bad.. if he didn't get any wicket then i would call out bowled...
well i still believe that pakistan should have sent someone new... a young gun like asad or naizi.. we have seen yasir arafat bowle he is ok... i think since he is alrounder and his batting comes as a plus that is why he was selected..

Shouldn't having a fast bowler head coach like Lawson prevent ourselves from making stupid mistakes like that?

Ali got 10, Niazi only got 5. I would call that outbowled.

Anyway, we haven't tried Arafat yet in Tests, and he is a better first class bowler than he is a limited overs bowler so I don't think selecting him would be a bad idea.

On the other hand I wouldn't be bothered if we pick some new young guns in our side either.

well acutally doesn't sound like a bad move..unles u rather gul to get injured during the test match... it would be a disester if this would have happend during the match considering that pakistan only play four bowlers.
if he couldn't handle that much bowling during the practice sessian then how would he bowle during the match where he is needed to bowle long spells. at least right now we know someone else covering for him and pakistan doesn't have to play with three bowlers..

Laxman would be the guy to go in order to accomodate Yuvraj, frankly though it paid off this time I'm not sure why they selected Laxman for the first Test because he tends to do horrible against Pakistan. Anyway, Yuvraj must be cursing his luck that Laxman and Ganguly scored in the most recent Test, as those two were the most likely to be dropped for him if they failed. Funny how thats always how it seems to work though? 8-)
Laxman is highly under-rated. He silenced all the critics by his knock. He would be key in series against Aussies

Its amazing how not being in the limited overs game makes people forget what you did in test matches when you last played. All India seems to have forgotten that in the series immediately preseding this one, Laxman averaged 50 plus in tests.

There is only one way Yuvraj can come into the side. Ask Karthik to keep wickets, drop Dhoni and get Yuvraj.

If you dont want to do that one must presume you feel Dhoni is a better batsman than Yuvraj. If thats the case forget dropping any of the middle order for they are all better than Dhoni as batsmen.

India won the toss and elected to bat first while Shoaib Malik as predicted has been replaced with Faisal Iqbal.

Karthik out for 1, big blow for him there. Dravid in now.
