Another miserable display from the so called "world class" Indian batsmen.

Mumbai 2006, Durban, Cape Town 2006, Bangalore 2005, Karachi 2006 - whenever the pitch is not flat and there is some pressure they invariably fall flat on their faces.

Tendulkar - when has the guy really produced an innings of quality when India needed him
Ganguly - good only against mediocre bowling - any kind of decent pace attack or when the heat's on he flops.ANd yet we see the clamour from the masses for "Our Dada" .....guy's massively overrated as a test batsman.
Jaffer - Send the guy back to Ranji - he aint cut out for this level.
I concur . Such an overrated ,over hyped batting line up . Look at the opening pair .Jaffer-Karthik ,two walking wickets for any decent bowler .They did well against a second string English attack . Then comes the middle order .Huge huge names ,Dravid ,Tendulkar ,Ganguly .They are living in their past glory .Dravid a wall(was) ,Tendulkar (as expected under pressure),Ganguly (what a replacement for Yuvi) .
It is almost predictable that Tendulkar won't play under pressure in tests . Thats how its been for a while . As a Tendulkar fan i find it very painful .Nothing to take away the batting ability or the ridiculing the genius ,but the pressure factor is obvious for every one .

Ganguly ,what can i say .His failure is also a regularity .

Wasim Jaffer ,may be i am harsh .But he didn't look comfortable against quality attack .

Any body there :toot::toot:

Whatever it takes!!!
yeah i felt that was important too...
yeah... he himself has said on a number of occassions that the one thing he missed was being there when we were winning some important test, hitting the winning runs... Nice to see his wish coming true. :)

India tried very hard but just couldn't manage to lose this one. Oh well - two more coming up - plenty of opportunities to take it easy, throw wickets away and wilt under pressure.

Congrats to India, Pakistan fans will be very disappointed coming so close and having a golden opportunity to take a big lead in the second innings, but they did compete to their credit and it's something I didn't think they'd do. Good match nonetheless, especially after some of the bat-a-thons of recent times, this was quite refreshing.

Cricket web 5th Day Report

Tendulkar ensured that no more major upsets occurred, hitting four boundaries to take his
score to 52 and hand India the match.

the score card in the same page is correct though

"We were 100 runs short in the second innings," Malik told reporters. "Whoever is the spinner, he needs some amount of time to get the batsmen out.

"If the sun had shone on this pitch, it would have behaved differently. From the day the match started, it hardly got any sunshine."

Amazing..The total was India's second highest succesful chase..
That's an astonishing and quite damning statistic.

Congratulations to India though - and like many others on here I was really happy to see Sachin there at the end to hit the winning runs.

Not sure why its damning really - successful chases or not, we still tend to win at home most of the time. Plus chasing in India is mighty tough.

Second highest successful run chase at home, not overall. Which is, as SS said, probably down to how difficult it is to chase in India when the pitch can deteriorate markedly, moreso than in most places.

To be fair there have been a number of close calls: the tied test of Madras, the Gavaskar led chase at the Oval. And India did pull off perhaps the greatest chase of all-time scoring 400+ in 1976 against the West Indies at the Port of Spain. Still overall it's a pretty dismal record. This reasonably solid chase was a good step forward.

and i am very happy about that...:), what i said was true though, wasn't it?
I thought you were being a bit too pessimistic... For me any thing between 250-300 might have gone either way but any thing below 250, and I had India as favourites as I mentioned earlier...

I am very much here .very happy about india's performance as well .But still not a very imposing victory against a poor side .We won thanks to the astute captaincy of Kumble .I am glad that Jaffer ,Sachin ,Ganguly all made me eat my words .It was my intention,u know what, when we curse them they will perform .When we praise them they will fail.

so Rahul Dravid was crap in this series so far:laugh:

I dont think it was a poor victory at all, winning the test in less than 4 days with 6 wickets in hand is pretty comfortable victory. That said agree with you completely on Kumble's captaincy. :)

Is that a strategy to get Dravid to make runs too? Dravid has looked good in both innings and has been in form coming into this match. However, surprisingly, he misread the line of the ball in both the innings - some thing which usually doesn't happen with Dravid. I am actually looking forward to a 100 by him in the next game. ;)

Me too but I don't think he misread the Shoaib Akhtar ball. It was an extraordinary delivery pitched on a very good line and length which swung in very late and heavily.

Pakistan is hardly a poor side. They have Younis, Yousuf, Akhtar and Kaneria who are all top ranked players all about/atleast in the same caliber or better as any that we have, yes incl Kaneria. That India nullified 3 out of 4 of these in this game was part of putting up the winning performance.

Not just the superstars: Misbah, Butt, Tanvir are all quite decent and did their jobs even in this match. Gul, Asif were the only notable absences from a full strength team but in exactly the same department that India too had two injuries.

But yes, lets try to reverse jinx Dravid. Still two more matches to win.

He did misjudge the line given he was not able to counter the Shoaib delivery, brilliant as it was with the swing. I don't usually see Dravid missing the line like this, even when the ball is brilliant.

You can't do much about such deliveries more often than not but that wasn't my point.

To be honest, I feel he was late on it too. It is no doubt that the reflexes of Dravid and Tendulkar (less so Ganguly) are certainly slowing.
