well pakistan miss afridi in this match.. simply because this pitch suit his bowling..he adds those verity in his bowling which is hard to read sometimes..so much for relying on sami and kaneria.. they both should be droped.. i mean kaneria averages 35 now.. the highest for a spinner in any side. pakistan needs some serious changes if they wana win this series
Pakistan was missing a 5th bowler. Even Malik himself could've come on and tried in the last 15-20 overs while there still was 70 or so runs on the board.

That said, Kaneria is not the only spinner to be a bit ineffective against India. So replacing him with Afridi may not have helped/been enough. Pakistan could consider a 4-pace attack along with Afridi & Malik and that may just work in India.

ya we all know that............and we will loose 4-0..thank god its only four test.....Happy ?????
Who wouldn't be happy for their team to white-wash another.
I would rather see a close contest, but from a realist's point of view I don't think it will be, I think India will be looking for draws and their bowling line up lacks teeth.
So save you petty sarcasm for another time.

Probably would TBH.
Haha, that is funnier (to me) than it is supposed to be.

But there is an obvious problem in Indian cricket when so many individuals average 50+ but can't convert that to the international arena - Jaffer and Gambhir are two players in and around the current circuit to be examples of that, but there are plenty more.

Then again, would someone like Badrinath do any better? We have to wait and see.

Also, I was watching the Greg Chappell Documentary on AUS TV a few days ago, and it is even more clear than india do need new blood. Do you think that there is any chance of Tendulkar retiring after the Australia series and Ganguly retiring after reaching 100 tests?

I know the state of cricket fluctuates on a series by series basis, but has this Test been good cricket?

I'm loving late career Kumble -- test centuries, captaincy.

I am enjoying it, though obviously I am biased. Overall, though I expected them to win, I am still quite happy with the win. It was closer than the fourth innings suggest, but Zaheer bowled well so that gives me hope for the rest of the series. Akhtar seems to be alone on the Pakistani side here.

Great win by India. Pakistan have lots of problems to solve in the next two tests. Shoaib was the only highlight for Pakistan from this game.

You can make it whatever you want. But...

Latest 4th innings crunch situation that this Indian team was in, they got to 282-9 at Lords in overcast swing friendly conditions with Jaffer, Dravid, Tendulkar falling cheaply.
Ferozeshah Kotla may be a friendlier track than that one.
You can make whatever you want. But...

We won.

I wish that's how it was, but remember the Indian innings, they were 5 down for less than 100 and still got 276 in the end, so I don't think 200 will be that difficult to chase.
Anil, you responded...

there is a significant difference between batting in the 2nd innings and batting in the 4th innings on a 4th/5th day track...india have traditionally sucked at chasing anything other than miniscule targets in the last innings....
We didn't suck. :)

Pakistan lost the game because its batsmen failed to score. You cant make scores like 231 and 247 in the subcontinent and expect to win the test. Pakistani batsmen threw their wickets away in their second inning.

Anyways, I am happy with the way India won and also happy for Tendulkar, not only beecause of him pasing AB but also for being there till the last to finish the game.

I still want him dropped. That being said, he looked a class act today and should probably stay until a suitable replacement who is in domestic form can be found.
Haha. There is no way Jaffer should be dropped. Technically sound and can't think of the Indian test team without him.

Whatever it takes!!!
Good win for India. Overall, we have been better at the key moments but not by any great distance. Pakistan had their chances in the match but they let them slip, mainly because a number of their batsmen seemed to throw away starts and apart from Shoaib and Tanvir at times, their bowling was extremely ordinary. Kaneria was fodder and Sami, even though he was putting in good effort, got very little out of the track. But if Gul and Asif are back, they could well transform into a very good test outfit, simply because of their bowling attack, if nothing else.

India have some problems of their own. Karthik needs to get runs soon. I know he has done exceedingly well but the way selectors and selections work, one bad test is all you need to go out of the reckoning, esp. since you have failed a few times in ODIs as well, and somehow Indians remember ODIs a lot more than tests. Harbhajan got wickets but didn't look threatening.. Munaf was ok, but not good enough to be a strike bowler for a test side. Kumble did well but again, seemed to have only one or two ways of getting a batsman out and for me, was kinda one dimensional. Zaheer has looked good but again, he doesn't strike me as the sort who can run through sides on his own too often. I think we were more than helped out by some inept Pakistan batting.

But focussing on the positives, Jaffar looked very good and in control while he was out there, which augurs well for the side. Laxman showed some solidity but again showed how ineffective he tends to be in batting with the tail. Dravid stuck around as is his wont but should look to go on with these starts now... Ganguly had a magical game with the ball and was a real surprise package as a third seamer in the side. He seems to be the lone real attacking batsman now in the side, apart from Dhoni and hence is a pretty important player in the scheme of things. If he comes off, it will make things that much more easier for the team. The bowling looked very purposeful, if not always menacing and the fielding strategies etc. seemed very well planned. It never looked as though the Indians were going through the motions and that is a great thing to see in a side.

Most of all, the biggest positive has been Kumble's captaincy. I had expected him to be a solid captain but he has pleasantly surprised me with the sort of nous he has shown and the sort of gambles he seems to be prepared to take. I just hope he goes from strength to strength and helps the players get better as well. He is def. my MoM. :)
