So do you want him dropped or not? If so, for who?
To be honest, I am not convinced with him but currently, it is a case of there being no one else who is in form and suitable to open in a Test match as far as experience goes.

At the end of the Pakistan series, if he has an average of about 35 or more, he should stay and one between 25-35 should be a judgement call based on circumstances but, in the event that he does disasterously in the next two Tests, he should be dropped for the most impressive domestic performer out of:
-Sehwag
-Gambhir
-Chopra

If they have roughly the same performances in the Ranji Trophy this year, it should go along that pecking order in my opinion.

Eventhough he averages only close to 35 in tests, i always thought jaffer played well in crunch games, say when the series is on line or match is on line, .With the known fraility of indian middle order in chasing anything above 250 in 4th innings, jaffer seems to do well in such situations too. I think jaffer should be persisted for tour till down under and then make a call.I would watch out for karthik though. If he does not perform well continuously for another 6 months or so, he must be dropped for sehwag or chopra, but right now the combination seems to be just fine till the tour of australia.

Been watching on and off and haven’t found either side very impressive, India are going to have a very hard time in Oz no doubt...

Gambhir could have an average of 500 in domestic matches, and it still wouldn't make him a Test batsman.

I have been extremely impressed by Kumble's captaincy. He understands bowlers, and bowlers win matches. I absolutely loved the fact that he gave himself the new ball, knowing that keeping it tight will get you the lower order wickets and it wasn't worth the risk of more runs given away by the first line seamers. His usage of Ganguly is been fantastic as well. He made a couple mistakes, but overall, I am really enjoying his style.

Without a shadow of a doubt, yes.
Ok, fair enough, I understand your reasons.

Yes, he is a breath of fresh air and a very good captain.

Gul,Asif > Tanvir and esp Sami.

But Sami's batting partnership with Misbah setup a decent total. Else Pakistan would've been 160 or so.

Then Tanvir's double strike of Ganguly,Dravid - along with Sachin ruout - very much restricted India.

So in this match context Tanvir,Sami did a job. (Sami bowled with reasonable effort yesterday, but only effort is neither here nor there).

It seems that once again, Mohammad Sami is proving to be the difference between the two sides.
After his performance in this match,Mohammad Sami has to be best pace bowler ever.I'm sure if he keeps getting selected,he'll one day average 100+ with the ball, thus breaking Bradman's record of highest ever average.

Sami is a bowler. His runs are a bonus, but if hes not doing his job, then theres no way he merits selection in the future, unless he scores like a triple century or something.

I would give it to Kumble for his 7 wickets, some useful runs and good captaincy.
Yes, Kumble has been a big difference - out of the box thinking from a veteran & a student has resulted in timely breakthroughs. Zaheer,Harbhajan and especially Ganguly have all responded to his judicious use of them. RP, Sree both being injured was a hard blow , but the others made up for it in concert.

Kumble probably made Ganguly's day any way by giving him the new ball.

Especially in contrast to the young but utterly unimaginative Malik.

well pakistan miss afridi in this match.. simply because this pitch suit his bowling..he adds those verity in his bowling which is hard to read sometimes..so much for relying on sami and kaneria.. they both should be droped.. i mean kaneria averages 35 now.. the highest for a spinner in any side. pakistan needs some serious changes if they wana win this series
