Well I wrote a piece previewing this series for my work newsletter, and predicted SL to take the first Test but, if Flintoff returns for Tests 2,3,4 then England to take the series 2-1. I stand by it.

We'll have to play proper rubbish for SL to win it.

Wow, there's a good chance both Pakistan and England will play without five "regulars" in the first test. Talk about injuries.

England has better chances . Inzi and Yousaf will have to take the matters in their hands and well its noit going to be a close game at all . The team which is going to win is going to win with a huge margin .

You have to fancy Pakistan's chances, especially if they bat first. The weather down here's glorious, so you can easily see them batting for 2 days against our attack before letting Kaneria & Afridi loose. If England bat first, maybe a high scoring draw is more likely. Either way, you can't see England doing much with the ball. Harmy's form over the last 18 months is well known, Plunkett's confidence won't have been helped at all by the odi's, I think Lewis will struggle in the conditions at Lord's, and Monty's not going to take truckloads there.

Interesting interview with Harmison in the paper yesterday. Endearingly honest, as ever, and said all the right things about not using injuries as an excuse. I was less encouraged by his take on his own form though, as he didn't claim to have much idea why it's gone wrong. Apparently he reckons he must be doing something right as the selectors keep picking him. AFAICS that's becuase there's no obvious alternatives, so I hope he doesn't really see it in those terms. It may have just been a throwaway comment, tbf.

There's some really lazy stuff from Fraser in the paper today. Lots of tired old patronising cliches about Pakistan's unpredictability, and how Inzi & Woolmer don't have a clue how they'll perform on any given day. I'd have thought that's rather more true of England, tbh, certainly over the last 9 months, anyway. And it does rather ignore the fact that Pakistan have actually bee highly consistent in England over the last 20 years.

Still, I'm really looking forward to it. Right now there's a part of me believes that Harmy & Plunkett will bowl like gods despite all the evidence to the contrary. And I do think this is an excellent Pakistan side who will be great to watch even if they do turn us over.
