The important thing is not whether Hair was wrong or right, the important thing is that I hate him anyway, and so should everyone else.

We don't know that Darrell Hair has done anything wrong. We have to wait to see what he says in his report. If he actually saw the ball being tampered with then he's completely in the right. If he guessed because of marks that appeared on the ball then that's another matter. He was completely right to refuse to carry on the game which Pakistan had already forfeited by refusing to play.
Based on everything so far, all of this happened due just to Hair's assumptions. I'm sure we'll find out by tomorrow. You are correct that he doesn't have to carry on, but does that make it right? He's an umpire. He shouldn't be the center of attention. Even if thinks he's in the right, why not come back on the field and finish the game? Why act all high and mighty?

Thanks, I got it.

You know, he says nothing of the sort of what you described in terms of deciding not to play after the ultimatum. Firstly, he says they weren't sure of what exactly was going on at first when they first emerged from the dressing room, and then he claims that after the umpires demand they come out on the field, they were ready to play "a few minutes later" but then the umpires wouldn't come out.

Yeah but you have to read that "few minutes" in the context of the half an hour + that it actually took. And that they only "agreed to play" after the umpires had gone out for the second time, Kamran Akmal had spent several minutes reading the News of the World with his pads off on the balcony, and both the chairman of the PCB and ECB had gone in to talk to them. I was giving his remarks in as generous a light as possible consistent with the facts.

maybe he needed some material for his next book, heard he made quite a packet off the murali no-balling controversy....
Let him write as many books as he like, he will have plenty of time for them now since hopefully he will not be umpiring again in international cricket
