Well if one player (not acting on team orders, and not with the knowledge of the rest of the team) had tampered with the ball they are hardly going to own up, are they? Do you think the Surrey players knew who was responsible for the ball-tampering in their incident earlier in the year?
If they tampered with the ball, and the umpires found out, they clearly would rather own up during that tea break (i.e before any protest/refusal to play/whatever you want to call it was decided) then risk 1. having Hair actually have seen it take place or 2. having a camera have footage of them doing it, and then embarassing the Pakistani team and board to ridiculous proportions.

Obviously I can't say for sure, but I'm confident that if any Pakistani player tampered, they would have owned up before this huge uproar took place.

If you have no visual evidance then you have no case.

My friend if you would like to know then let me tell you that " Pakistan did stated in writing about the appointment of Hair before the series " . It cannot be made official but it was stated in urdu newspaper "Daily Khabrain" ..
The leakage of personal letters is considered as the violation of codes of ethics..
Anyways , The the thing realy fueled due to the Hair decision . That is a fact . If want to consider it then fine .
In the past there have been many incidents and it is useless to discuss but Pakistani team never behaved like this .. So you can imagine what is the reason .
I didn't know about the letter, I will say tho that I'm very surprised word of it didn't reach our cricketing press over here.

& I can imagine several reasons why Pakistan have behaved as they did; none of which paint the team in a very favourable light.

Of course now it has become a Mexican standoff between Pakistan, the umpires & the ICC and no-one wanst to be the one who blinks first.

The Wheel is Forever
It's just been noted that the ICC office will be closed tomorrow. As the press release has it: "The day has been declared a holiday in Dubai to mark the Ascension of the Prophet (PBUH). The office will be open as normal on Sunday 20 August (8.30am - 5pm) and, after the day off, it will reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday 22 August." Could this situation get much more farcical? Probably not...

WOW, ICC are worse than Hair.

Anyway to stir the pot, the betting odds on England have been ridiculously short for the last couple of days...

Ha, can't believe this nonsense is being touted around here too.

The ball is the evidence.

So, pray tell, how will you be able to conclusively differentiate between marks made by 64 overs of playing cricket vs. players making them on purpose? So who is worse for the game of cricket? Cronje or Hair?

Because Pietersen didn't smash any balls into the boundary now did he?

And please go home 'as your location suggests' if you think this place is full of rubbish being touted.

Other than that, welcome to CW. :)

No, because according to the letter of the law, England have won the game.. If Pakistan go on to play tomorrow, doesnt it make a bit of a mockery of said laws?
It would. Not only the laws, but also the spirit of the game.

Here is what the ICC chief had to say on another issue a day ago: "The spirit of cricket is also about a commitment to play even under the worst circumstances."

If Pakistan are allowed to get away with this ridiculous display, the ICC would be contradicting itself.

Because by being accused of ball tampering you are being called a cheat and being called a cheat does hurt ones pride.
But how does it hurt your pride if you know your not guilty?

When i play for my rugby team, the proudest moments are when we play on even though the ref isn't very good or is blatanly biased of if the team we are playing are blatant cheats. Triumphing over adversity is what makes you proud, not being petulant and giving up.

Not the issue at hand, is it? Had Pakistan continued to play they would have had unqualified sympathy from 99% of viewers/fans. As it stands they've seriously queered the pitch.
how would've viewers sympathy transpire into anything actual result for the Pakistani players ?

The umpires are the judge of that. And, Cronje on the unrelated question you have put forward for some reason.
