If you're unwilling to respect the umpire's decision you shouldn't be playing cricket as far as I'm concerned. And it's a bit of a leap to assume Doctrove and Hair are racist just because they accused Pakistan of ball tampering, isn't it? Really an issue for the match referee and the ICC to deal with, regardless.
I'd say there's been enough evidence of bias from Hair to reach a conclusion. I'm not accusing Doctrove.
And, as far as I'm concerned, you only respect the umpire's decision if it is fair and just. If it is blatantly wrong and incompetent, why respect it? To draw a parellel with 'real life', would you respect a police officer if he/she arrested you for a crime you did not commit? To be honest, I can't understand this view from a lot of cricket fans who would be normally be quite progressive regarding issues outside cricket, but become overwhelmingly conservative when it comes to the game of cricket.

So what is refusing to play then?

Yes.

If they'd taken the moral high ground, and channelled any anger into performance, won the game and then made the complaints then that would've gained worldwide respect.
Why should they play under allegations that they cheated? I would go far as to say that they should boycott every game where Hair officiates until he apologizes or is kicked of the panel

Pakistan are overreacting. So, if I don't like the umpires decision, I don't play. Nice.
Once again, it's not like they were protesting a LBW decision! They were accused of CHEATING. Damn right they don't like the umpire's decision!

I totally agree with Dasa. Pakistan and Inzy have done nothing wrong. With 20+ cameras on the field one must always be on the ball or the pitch e.g. Afridi ruining the pitch, Atherton Ball tampering etc. There is no footage so an unjustified decision has been made by the umpires on top of this an unusually high no of decisons have gone against Pakistan. I think they had every right to protest. Its like in street football says 'Oh we will give you that goal eventhough you cheated" after such an allegation there can only be trouble. The religious element in the team probably meant such an allegation was unacceptable
As i said before, you don't need to catch someone tampering with the ball to give the opposition 5 runs.

Pakistan should be fined heavily for bringing the game into disrepute.

So????

Why does it matter if the umpires think they cheated?????

Botham, Hussain & Gower blaming the ICC for some reason.
For not releasing a statement and having some bulls, the umpires, match official should have said something at tea. The game could not continue for two and bit more hours with this cloud remaining.

Umpire Hair thinks the Pakistani have been tampering with the ball, yet the guy is seemingly going on a presumption. Also if the Pakistani’s were ball tampering they should be ashamed of themselves, it was hardly boomeranging around! And would you continue to have a spinner bowling if you was getting so much reverse swing? Like ****.

How can you take action without any proof? It was a bad call its as simple as that

Right then. Along with Chris Broad, I suppose? Anyway, I'm not going to bother debating whether or not he's racist because frankly it's irrelevant. As it is, he's the umpire, he (along with the other umpire) made a decision, and rather than approaching it through the proper channels the Pakistani team decided not to come out to play, thus forfeiting the match. It's an obvious overreaction, and surrenders the moral high ground, which IMO Pakistan had completely beforehand due to the utterly exemplary conduct of Inzy.

I'd say it's fairly likely that Hair and Doctrove were wrong to make the ball tampering accusations, incidentally. That's not really the issue, though.

Damn right - the ICC should be ashamed of themselves sitting on the fence, this has been a bad couple of weeks for cricket, Deano, the SA pullout, cancellation of the triseries and now this!

Of course it matters, it undermines they integrity as a team. If they did not cheat, then they have a right to protest.

That much is actually beyond question. The ball was reversing & they did continue to bowl Kaneria.

So what??? I can't tell whether you're dense or intentionally treating this as "no big deal". If you don't agree with lets say a LBW decision, and you think the umpire is being biased, you can wait until after the game to lodge a protest. However, if you are accused directly OF CHEATING, it's an attack on your character and pride. There is a massive difference in a wrong (even possibly bias) decision and being personally accused of cheating.

If there are 12 people in a room, the lights go out, if ten seconds later when they come back on one man has been strangled to death, we don't need to know who did it to know that one of the remaining 11 or even a group of them killed the man.

This 26 cameras argument people keep coming out with is pointless, you don't have 26 people looking at each and every camera scrutinising it every second of the match as it happens. It will take a while for people to look through the video properly and decide whether or not there's any proof there, the cameras could still miss something or throw up something that's inconclusive anyway - that's if the ICC don't get their hands on the video footage and 'lose' it first.

The whole situation is ludicrous. I completely sympathise with the Pakistani players, who have been accused of the gravest actions involved on a cricket field, SEEMINGLY (obviously nothing can be confirmed yet), just on Hair's interpretation of the state of the ball.

It should be obvious now that the best situation is for the game to be concluded. The stubborn nature of Hair is now the only block in the way of a fair conclusion to this game. Any other issues related to ball tampering can be resolved later.

Hair needs to be replaced and the game needs to resume tomorrow.

And if Hair is going on a presumption then it should be good night Vienna for him. No evidence, no crime, 26 Sky cameras seemingly have nothing of yet.

It will be a dark day for umpires if Prokkie decides a replacement for Hair would be able to officiate tomorrow.. Where does their authority stand then?

Okay, assuming the accusation is baseless, shouldn't it be fairly quick work to sort it out? The match ref asks the umpires whether they have proof, the umpires say no, the match ref says to Pakistan, okay, we acknowledge that the accusation is baseless, sorry. And that's it. Pakistan get on with it. Now why this didn't happen I don't know.

...and what would the proper channels be? If the Pakistanis complained after the match, it's likely that Hair (and Doctrove) would escape with nothing more than a slap on the wrists and Pakistani cricket would be tainted for another decade with allegations of cheating. If the alternative is to let their feelings be known now, why not do what they have done?

Incidentally, how many of those who have been so critical of Pakistan would honestly be able to say they would not take the same action if in the position?
