Gilchrist's 12 hundreds before the current Test...

..........

Those are the stats. It's pretty clear the value of Gilchrist to the Australian team.
Thanks for posting this. IMO, Gilchrist's easily saved and won far too many matches (in both formats) for Australia for him to be accused of being a fair-weather player that cashes in on great Aussie starts.

Out of curiosity, with Pakistan 45 behind, and six wickets in hand, what kind of target (presuming they can set one) do people think might give them some a fair chance in the match?

MacGill and Warne aren't looking terribly deadly right now, so even considering the Aussies' occasional stumbles with small totals (and turning pitches), I'd be thinking around 180 or more would probably be necessary to create some nervousness...

What terrible running from Afridi and Asim. Just so unnecessary.
That's what I'm wondering. Why would you ever risk your wicket to take a quick single in a test match when you have all the time there to score runs?

Because Afridi doesnt think like a test player :D

Well, not unusually, the latter order's falling like a pack of cards. Afridi's run-out pretty much spelled the end. Quite a few batsmen got starts, but nobody really went on.

I'm sure that Javed Miandad is sharpening the knives, as we speak.

On another note, we had two LBW's this innings that visibly pitched outside leg - IMO, technology can't really resolve this particular problem... But come on guys, let's get these basics right (can't remember if they were both Shepherd or not). Other than that, I think the umpiring hasn't been too bad, even if the press are over-adamant that Watson was caught off the bump-ball call.

Also, good to see MacGill stake his claim as the second best spinner in Australia. The guy gets far too much stick on these forums, IMO.

Nice little innings from Asim here, with some very good support from Asif. Showing some talent, and he has a slight chance at making a century if Asif can continue to defend soundly at the other end.

But just to show that when the Lord giveth, the Lord can also take away, in the picture they keep flashing up of him, he has more than a passing resemblance to Rowan Atkinson.

I think there have been many positives to come out of this tour. The young openers have shown some spunk this match, Asim looks to be a gutsy player with some talent, Kaneria has stamped himself as world class and they have some up and coming players notably the keeper who could do well in the future. If there are some consistent selections and some nuturing, the Pakistan team could be a real force in a couple of years. They need another one or two class bowlers though.

Nice 10th wicket parthership between asif and asim, I think Kaneria can say hello to number 11 again
