macgill strikes with his first ball, and then concedes a four. typical- i was reading pontings a captain's diary, and in it he says that macgill doesnt care how many runs he gives away as long as he takes wickets.
Maybe but Macgill gives away too many loose balls to hit...he's got to work on that

Interesting stat:

Of Gilchrist's 13 centuries, only once has he been the sole century maker, meaning at least one (if not more) batsman have got centuries when he has.

That doesn't surprise me... Down at number seven he'd usually have to have a partner from the top/middle order to stay with him long enough to score one.

It would be interesting to see if he would have the same career record if he was in a team like Pakistan or New Zealand, where he is coming in regularly at 5/70 or 5/160, and a long tail, would he play the same way? Probably, but would he be as effective?

Surely he wouldn't come in at seven in any other team. If he was in one of those teams, he'd be the equalizer, as opposed to now, where he's the cream on the cake.

Considering the lack of talent in bowling department in Pakistan, i think they should stick to Rana.
To be fair, I would assume that Shabbir and Umar Gul would be 2nd and 3rd choice quick bowlers if they were fit and they both seem to be pretty promising.

I was shocked at Butt's dismissal. Even Chris Martin would have dispatched that one for a boundary!

That is quite an interesting one.

Does it suggest that these centuries are perhaps on the easier tracks?

I think Pakistan will play Hameed and you can't throw him out of the match because he is probably the most consistent performing opener Pakistan have right now. Sending him one down in the last 2 matches might have affected his batting, and Pakistan should have changed Farhat's batting position and not Yasir Hamid's since Farhat was the one struggling to score runs batting as an opener. Maybe they'll throw Imran Farhat out this time and have Yasir Hameed open the batting for them along with Salman Butt. Maybe Afridi can play one down or at fifth or sixth position
I think either Pakistani captain or Bob Woolmer heard me say that lol, not any sort of conjunction or coincidence  .. Good thing Yasir Hameed got 2 fifties in this test(opened)
