I don't think there's any need for a declaration. It's the first innings, and Australia will be planning not to have to bat again, if possible.

...someone said 600 and I kinda ridiculed it...*1000 apologies* - 600+ it seems

Best thing is to bat as much and bowl em out, they will falter anyways seeing the lead

I was thinking that, but I forgot that Watson was our last recognised batsman. Surely if the Aussies bat out the day they'll declare.

Whats the stumping record in a test match?
I just looked at howstat, and it looks like the record is six, by Kiran More in '87/88.

I'm not sure Akmal is going to get a second innings to have a shot at it though - he's only got a couple at this point.

I think they'll just go the tonk into tomorrow, if the tail is still standing... Ponting hasn't demonstrated much of a liking for declarations when more damage can be done, so far.

Interesting debut for Watson... I think his first four scoring shots have been fours.

Any idea who the bowlers were when More caused the record stumpings?

Going by memory, the main wicket-taker was Hirwani.

edit: It was Hirwani and co, in this match.

never goto crapinfo
cricbuzz were indispensable for me during the Aussie tour of India. Unfortunately, they only cover series where a subcontinental team is involved - so if you're interested in live cricket elsewhere, you're SOL. Good alternative to cricinfo's erratic time-skipping and server lag when they're covering a match, though.

You're dead right (and I had no idea - I just looked it up)

Amazingly, five of them were in the same innings.

EDIT: Haha, when I clicked on your post to quote it, the link hadn't been added...

5 out of the six stumpings off he bowling of Hirwani. Leg spinners do cause more stumpings than other bowlers in cricket it seems because of the loop they generate to entice the batsmen.

Nice confident start by Watson. I can see a hundred by stumps tonight. (If there is a chance, I can't see Ponting declaring)

??? Ponting has ground the opposition into the ground and prolonged their agony. That does a lot of damage, so I don't see what you're on about.

..but again, cricinfo is usually jammed when any sub-cont. team is playing. So cricinfo is usually jam-free when any other teams are playing

Ashes would be different IMO

Did you read my post too quickly? Read it again - that's exactly my point.

What a one sided match this is turning out. It least exercises some demons that is hunting Ricky Ponting over his lack of houndreds in the 12 months.

Surely Pakistan have written the book on how to get int ogood positions and throw it all away and lose.
