Match drawn due to rain, so no chance for any of the top 4 to get another hit today. Renshaw's ideally pushed himself ahead of bancroft, but I don't think there's gonna be that much difference between them in terms of top level performance, I don't see either averaging over 35 for an extended period in test's.

From cricinfo

Legspinner Abrar Ahmed is almost certain to miss Pakistan's first Test against Australia in Perth after complaining of "discomfort in his right leg".

Why do opposition bowlers just break down when they tour here? Can't remember a series in the past 4-5 years where the opposition bowlers have managed to stay fit for the whole series.

Edit: Nortje, Jansen and Rabada lasted all of last summer, tbf. Outside of that it's pretty bare.

What's wrong with the idea of Warner naming a date he wants to retire, FYI? He said in the press conference this came out of that the selectors may not pick him up to that point.

What does Warner, Smith, Head, Marsh, Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood have in common?

They will not have played FC cricket in 4.5 months when they play the 1st Test.

Excuses for red ball rust anyone?

Oh you can't work with discomfort of any kind, fair enough. Take a month leave IMO
I'm sure he used the word "discomfort", and it's not a mistranslation.

Meanwhile poor Abrar Ahmed might be trying to walk off some sort of Monty Python Black Knight style "flesh wound", and how would any of us be any the wiser?

The answer is probably that they tend to come in cold off a long break from any competitive cricket and then don't have enough preparation time to ease themselves back into full-throttle Test cricket, often in very physically demanding conditions given the heat. So they get injured.

I don’t think it matters as much these days as it used to, provided they’ve been playing some sort of cricket. It seems like it’s just the modern player’s lot that they have to switch formats regularly at the drop of a hat these days.

I still struggle with it though. I'll be looking at Labuschagne and Carey who got 1 shield game to reset and I think they'll be better for the red ball hit (as will Khawaja and Lyon who played more)

Hasan Ali has a very respectable Test Record ..

78 Test wickets in 22 Tests @ 25.67
this avg alone proves that there should be a caveat applied to bowling averages in this era just like we did for those who feasted on 2000s batting pitches

Thakur and Hasan skills are not reflective of bowlers averaging 25 at all
