Yeah, and then there are others who will appear.Broad-Finn-wood in theory should be good enough.
Who would have thought Wood would be an important cog in the attack 3 years ago?

I always thought he'd be doing well to get near 500 but there's an outside shot he can get there by the end of next summer. His average under 29 now as well, would hope he can keep it there for rest of his career. I reckon he will end up 6th all time, 504 @ 28.54. Bookmark that.
With the greatest of respect to Finn and Wood, the gap in quality between them and Anderson is still pretty massive. Plus, you lose the steadying factor that Anderson brings as well as his natural leadership of the attack, which isn't a role that Broad is quite suited to yet.Broad-Finn-wood in theory should be good enough.
Champions trophy and world cup coming up in England, he will be absolutely desperate to play them though.Might get more years out of Anderson if he only plays tests..
Did an alright job last time Anderson missed out to be fair to him. With the greatest of respect to Finn and Wood, the gap in quality between them and Anderson is still pretty massive. One last hurrah in Aus then.So anomalies aside 35/36 seems like the most we can reasonably expect of Anderson ie 2017-18
Don't you think I know that? With the greatest of respect to Finn and Wood, the gap in quality between them and Anderson is still pretty massive. Early days & I don't like commenting on tests matches until they are over, but I always thought based on what happened when NZ played PAK in Sharjah last year, that ENG was always going to play 3 spinners in this match when they picked Ansari & went for the out of the box decision to bring in Patel when he got injured. If you going by the most recent test in Sharjah its makes sense though. When NZ played PAK there, McCullum brought Vettori out of retirement just to employ a 3 spin attack

I don't think they would have played three spinners here if Wood hadn't been injured. I think the point of Ansari more than anything else was to cover terrible form/injury to the two frontline spinners because they planned on playing two in every game. Sharjah would've been the venue they identified "well maybe three, maybe" but I definitely think the form of the fast bowlers would've come into it. No way was Wood getting dropped here if he was fit given the way he's bowled IMO.Early days & I don't like commenting on tests matches until they are over, but I always thought based on what happened when NZ played PAK in Sharjah last year, that ENG was always going to play 3 spinners in this match when they picked Ansari & went for the out of the box decision to bring in Patel when he got injured.
Very much a plan decided before the tour began.
