About 3 years. He first played for Worcs in 2011, crackdown on him and chuckers worldwide starting last year june.
I meant it must be about 10 years since Warne, Murali, Mushtaq, MacGill and Saqlain had their long stints in the CC.

I'm just amazed Bayliss was even considering it as a likely option. The interview video he gives on the ecb twitter suggest he's still considering it and were waiting until they got to Sharjah.
If you going by the most recent test in Sharjah its makes sense though. When NZ played PAK there, McCullum brought Vettori out of retirement just to employ a 3 spin attack

And the really depressing thought is that none of us could seriously come up with realistic alternatives. Which means that any spinners our batsmen face in the domestic games are actually worse than these guys. Apart from facing Ajmal for Worcs, I suppose. No wonder our newer bats haven't the first clue how to play the twirly stuff.
The only options I could think of were the older spinners theegyptian mentioned. Can't imagine they'd have been hit as easily as Moeen or Rashid.

Coming up to about that yeah, I think Mushtaq played 'till around 2006 and Warne 'till around 2008 maybe?

Edit: Murali played about 2 years ago though, but only as a T20 player I think.

The suggestion (numerous times in this thread) of dropping either Rashid or Moeen is stupid. They both must play. 5 pacers is an overkill. In fact, I think 4 pacers is an overkill. That's why I want to drop Stokes. His bowling is not needed, and his batting alone isn't good enough to keep him in the team. The idea that he's a better batsman than Bell/Bairstow/Taylor in these conditions is laughable.

I think he's probably better than Bairstow, but Bairstow's keeping should keep him in since Buttler should/will almost certainly be dropped. Only change I think I'd make is Taylor for Buttler.

Hope Taylor opens the batting. Moeen's much more effective at #7
Yea those are the only changes that make sense. England have benefited by having so many bowling options, and only Butler hasn't really contributed so far.

They could also persist with Moeen opening, let Taylor bat 3, and drop Bell down to 5. Stokes 6 Bairstow 7 Rashid 8.

Yeah, let's pick a bloke who hasn't played for 3 years, is known for his ability to play spin and who bats in the middle order for his county and make him open the batting.

Admittedly he's done it before for the Lions and done it well but Taylor should've been one of our assets on this tour and not an after-thought who has to be shoe-horned in.

Yeah I think Taylor should go into the middle order, because in a very short time he'll be replacing Bell at 3.

Leave Moeen opening. Yeah it was a one-off. I don't think he's been awful, and it's just for one more test.

England could really do with winning a toss.

They've lost 12 out of the last 14 tosses in Asia. Of the 12 occasions they've lost the toss, the opposition have batted first 11 times.

Have to go back to the two test series with India in 2008 as the last time England came out of a series not being on the losing end of the flip of a coin over the series (coin toss drawn 1-1 during that series)

Ahmer Naqvi did an awesome breakdown with gifs on Reddit of how Misbah and Yasir setup Baristow. I will warn you that it is difficult to read it without getting a Test match stiffie.

Don't agree with this entirely. Just seemed like a case of lulling the batsman into expecting legspin and then slipping in the googly. I do agree that the cricinfo commentary was very harsh. It was not a stupid shot.

Edit: He does mention this as a possibility at the end. Serves me right for ignoring Reddit edits.
