Look out for James Hill from Wellington this year, he is a good #3, #4 batsman.
Do you know roughly his age or background, Tim? The name seems to ring a bell from my own junior days.

I see in the Dom Post he scored 92 off 99 against Canterbury yesterday. Jesse Ryder "showed his first sign of form" with 33.

Very dissapointed with the Otago selectors. the only non contracted players they picked to play the Acadmey were James McMillan whom i agree should go, David Sewell been there seen that, just isnt up to it anymore and Jordan Sheed who has proven he isnt up to it.

I was very annoyed they did not promote andy young players like Jonathon homer whoplated very well in the trial, or the other players i have mentioned.

Hill is probably 19 or 20....I played him a few years back in Nelson, he's a very good attacking batsman.

It's very clear that the current bunch of batsmen coming through are far better than most of the journey men still lurking around.

All the players hitting centuries or scoring runs have hardly played FC cricket...I think we've got to start bringing some of these guys into the FC system otherwise we're going to be served up with more crap from McMillan etc for the next couple of years.

disappointed jesse ryder might not be opening this season, instead they are using fat parlane who only just scores more runs than his brother, they also followed each other to wellington from ND for some reason, i thought ryder showed a huge amount of class and promise as an opener and if he developed a good attacking opening batsman might be just what new zealand needs.

jesse ryder is will actually be opening in the one-dayers aswell as chris nevin swapping their middle order births with the four-day openers.
looking at the first academy one-day warm-up game today vs wellington i don't think the side could be any better balanced, the mixture of youth and experience is second to none,

P Carey
M Papps
B Wilson
B Findlay

C Harris
A Devcich

not suprisingly the academy won the match

He's been in shocking form in club cricket, hasn't he?

At least, that was the impression I had got when I was chatting to Albion guys when I was last in Dunedin.

His form has been the same as ever, average. The thing about him as he has been tried and failed so often, i thought we were better off blooding our younger batsmen. But if he can keep up this form i would give him another chance, not that my opinions matter anyway its Glen turer he needs to impress.

Good to see a few guys get some overs under the belt. I would like to see Jimmy McMillan back to his best, as he can generate some useful pace when his ankles and back allow.

Looks as though Hawke's Bay may have unearthed another talent - a couple of good scalps among this fella's wickets:

Central Districts' decision to take a punt on raw Hawke's Bay teenager Jeremy Kuru reaped an immediate reward in their drawn two-day cricket match against Auckland at Lincoln yesterday.

In seven overs the fast-medium bowler took three wickets for 10 runs, and promoted himself as a Central player of the future despite his inexperience.

Kuru, 19, created a stir in having former test opener Lou Vincent and the experienced Aaron Barnes caught behind, and he bowled one-day international Tama Canning as Auckland were dismissed for a miserable 111 in response to Central's 220.

Batting again, Central were 181-5 at stumps with New Zealand A selection Ross Taylor hammering an unbeaten 68 from 53 balls, which included 10 fours and three sixes. He scored 55 in the first innings.

Kuru made an impact last summer with 39 wickets in six matches for the Napier Technical club in the Hawke's Bay competition.

Pre-season he impressed some of the Central squad members, and when Brendon Diamanti withdrew from this week's matches with a broken toe Kuru was chosen.

"Jeremy's still very raw but he has a bit of gas. He's had very little coaching and he had a runup problem," Central coach Graham Barlow said.

AdvertisementAdvertisement"I was chuffed for the kid the way he took his chance today. He was very impressive. He was our fastest bowler. It's so exciting when you find someone like Jeremy."

Barlow said despite Kuru's performance he would probably spend the rest of the week on the sideline. The intention was to have him play for Central in the A tournament in early January.

He is injured already.

But, he should be alright for the first game of the season but has missed and will miss the rest of the pre-season.
