i think i saw another auckland club(or it might of been the same one) with former zimbabwe ODI player angus mckay.
does auckland and wellington club cricket not work the same as hamiltons ?
over here each club has a team in the premier competition and the 'A' competition.

Nah it's a different McKay as far as I know.

I heard Doug Marillier was also playing in Wellington?

I play for Metro in Invercargill - we won't have any players in the Otago team.

My old club in Dunedin, Albion, may have Nathan McCullum in the Otago team, but probably only the one dayers, if anything.

I wouldn't be surprised if Paul Strang gets the opportunity to play for Auckland this season. I've been watching his results so far for ECB & he's scoring half centuries regularly aswell as bagging a few wickets.

Yeah that is a different MacKay, he went to Kings College last year or the year before that....

Paul Strang...the spinner or the pace bowler?

Paul Strang the spinner. It was his brother Bryan who was the left arm medium bowler.

I feel that it would benefit everybody if a decent former international spinner had a bowl against the various domestic sides.

Strang could maybe help Brooke Walkers variety in his bowling, e.g. create the googly or something like that. He currently only really has the usually leg spinner.

i remember paul strang taking a heck of a lot of wickets in a test match in new zealand a while back, from memory i think he picked up eight in a single innings, he must of liked it in new zealand so came to play club cricket, if he is allowed to play for auckland i think he would be a huge asset i thought he had a huge amount of potential on the international scene until he got injured and banned by the ZCB(i think thats what happened, correct me if i'm worng).
haha sorry about the mckay thing.

Papps puts hand up for Canty
11 November 2004

Tim Papps scored his third century from four innings to promote his cause for Canterbury selection in a two-day match against Northern Districts at Lincoln No. 3.

Papps, who clocked up 119 runs, and East-Shirley clubmate Neil Broom, who made 92, added 154 in just 119 minutes for the fifth wicket as the Canterbury XI amassed 350 runs for seven from its 100 overs.

Papps, usually an opener, batted in the unaccustomed position of No. 6 as he and Broom helped rally the Canterbury XI after the loss of brother Michael Papps (4) and Shanan Stewart (0).

The left-handed Tim Papps, who made one Canterbury appearance last season, batted for three hours, faced 147 balls and hit 16 fours.

Northern Districts had sent Canterbury in but met early resistance from Tim McIntosh (31) and Gary Stead, who batted 199 minutes for his 61 with 11 fours.

The most successful of the Northern bowlers were medium pacers Graeme Aldridge and Mark Orchard with two wickets apiece.

Black Cap Daryl Tuffey was restricted to light duties, bowling six accurate overs for 11 runs.

Short scoreboard:

Canterbury XI 350-7 (T Papps 119, N Broom 92, G Stead 61, T McIntosh 31; M Orchard 2-25, G Aldridge 2-66) v Northern Districts.

Is it just me, or should Canterbury kick everyone's *ss this season!

Without Penn, Walker, Jones and to a lesser extent Grant Donaldson, Wellington's chance of retaining the SC looks pretty slim.

I've seen Tim Papps, he has a much bigger build than his brother Michael.
He scores alot quicker too.

Just wait till Richard gets up there too and you can have the whole Papps family there. Think that the name. Tim is a good player and probablt compared to MAcca.

Another Canterbury player(ex Auckland) is Tim McIntosh. He is plying for my club and he will probably open for the wizards this season. That would probably see Shannon Stewart drop out.

A young guy in Canterbury James Baxindale has had an awesome start to the season. He has been getting a mention each week at club speeches. Spinner and been holding up the side well batting to with continuous 40's or more

Canterbury have an incredible amount of depth. They lose 5 or 6 internationals yet they still bring out some exciting youth talent to fill the gaps.

Canterbury seem to have it down to a fine art in every sport...maybe a few other provinces could learn a few lessons from them.

If they have soooo much talent then why do they continue to take other teams talent.
People want to play for Canterbury because they are professional in what they do. More professional than the other provinces. We don't poach the players they want to come.

That does not stop them from trying to entice people to come, and waving their money at them.

Strangy has in the recent past been the top leggie behind Warne, Macgill, Mushy and Kumble... Really annoyed I havent got to see more of the bloke... Cracking bowler on his day.. The best that has come out of Zimbo IMO
