That does not stop them from trying to entice people to come, and waving their money at them.
Well Maybe Canterbury manage there money better because they oly have the same amount of people contracted at the same rates as each other province. The only way they have more is because we have more black caps on NZ contract so there are still 12 more to recieve provinal contracts.

Tim MacIntosh chose to come here because he wasn't getting a secured spot in Auckland. We let Garth Hopkins and Aaron Redmond go.

We do have a better club system because we have academy players and other people who are down here to be close to NZ cricket headquarters playingin that competition.

Hey well done to CANT for being able to put together an awesome squad...........

pity is I don't know if is actually to the benefit of NZL cricket to have so many eggs in 1 basket - unless CANT is about to get an invite to play in the AUS domestic comp.............

we already bemoan that state sides are reluctant to blood young talent from the Academy - so what will happen to these 'fringe' players when the BCs are available to play for CANT??????????

It is up to the fring players weather they want to stay or not. They used to loan players to other provinces but the players being loaned said they didn't feel the same passion so it stopped happening. The pride and Passion you get with playing for canterbury is something no other team can match and I think that is what makes canterbury such a great province. Alot of these guys would die to wear the red and black.

Get rid of Jordan Sheed & pick James Bullick. He used to score heaps of runs in Auckland.

Snedden looks to further trans-Tasman relations
15 November 2004

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) hope to use this summer's reciprocal series against Australia to try to gain a foothold in their domestic competitions.

North and South Island sides, Fleming? That's pretty ambitious - I think I'd settle for a NZ A side based at Lincoln. Even then MacGill probably wouldn't be doing cartwheels about taking 4-fers against them. ;)

If NZ have ambitions to become a top consistent international side, then part of that progression surely has to involve a NZ side playing in the Australian domestic competition.

Personally I think it should be a NZ 'A' side rather than North & South Island selections.

Yeah but who's interested anyway? The NZ domestic comp should just become a feeder to the NZ 'A' side.

Then there's 3 levels for NZ players to compete at until they reach international level...Club, Domestic & then Australian domestic.

I would say New Zealand cricket should care. If they grow a stronger comp more people would come to the games and they would make more money.

Also alot of die hard cricket fans care about our comp.

I agree - who would say Aussie rugby hasn't benefited from the Super 12 creating a better stepping stone to the Wallabies? In a similar way, I think NZ cricket would have a lot to gain from tying in with Australia.

If they plan to take the All Black squad out of the NPC which still gets 30,000+ crowds in Wellington, I'm pretty sure they could take the best players out of domestic cricket without too much fuss. The Wellington v. Canterbury game I was at last summer had an outdoors crowd of around 30, even with Cairns, Fleming etc. playing.

I think a NZ cricket franchise's games would get some sort of following through the summer, especially if Sky picked up the weekend Channel 9 ODs. The hard part might be convincing the Aussies they'd have something to gain, although if the Breakers and the Kingz were able to do it, I'd give Snedden a fighting chance.

but the talks Sneddon is involved in only involves end of season 20/20 & OD format..........as if we don't have enough limited overs cricket already.......

nothing to indicate anything regarding the full domestic comps other than Fleming endorsing the idea...............

it's the week in week out playing at such a competitive level (not just in quality of games but also in holding a place in your own team) that makes the Aussies so good..........

the academy team has been really competitive in the games they have played so far, i wouldn't be suprised if alot of these players made their first class debuts this year.
ND have five players in the academy team :)

Daniel Flynn & Te Ahu Davis are expected to make debuts for N.D this year.
Sean Eathorne should debut for Otago too...he's got to be better than that rabbit Jordan Sheed.

Look out for James Hill from Wellington this year, he is a good #3, #4 batsman.

bj watling is being tipped to play the one day games this year for ND or maybe even the 4 day matches since we don't have any experienced domestic gloveman with robbie hart retiring and the first choice keeper nathan daley is very inexperienced(at first class level anyway) and will be fighting it out with bj for the season, flynn(captain of the NZ under 19 team) may get a run depending on how the middle order holds up(so he is very likely to get a run :p )
the bloke devich in the academy team was in the same 1st XI as bj watling last year and is a hard hitting batsman and decent left-arm spinner, he hit 194 in his premier club cricket debut last year with one experienced club man saying it was the best innings he had ever seen at that level.

is that james hill the same one that played for CD a couple of seasons ago ? the one who is daniel vettori's cousin.....
