No team - just results:

Todd Astle with seven wickets in the second innings.
I keep hearing that name, but Ive heard that hes bowled everything from right arm medium to left arm chinamen. For the record, what exactly does he bowl?

I am waiting for the Under 19's to be named as well. I have got a couple of mates who are in contention.

Still can't find anything on it except regional reports. Southland's Shaun Fitzgibbon got in, along with Noema Barnett.

I thought the last round was today? It must have been yesterday then...

It should be up on the nzcricket site eventually.

Blaze, I posted the final day results further up this page. The final day wrap is on NZCricket, but not the team. I might call the media bloke to find out as a guy from here has made the under-17s.

William Brittain is a fine talent. Captain of the Kings College 1st XI, middle order batsman and a very good legspinner. Was named in the tournament XI too.

Tournament XI or world cup squad?

It's not just a tournament XI though, they go to Sri Lanka next month. Mr De Boarder didn't make it as the specalist keeper either, with Fitzgibbon taking that role.

Just through on email:

National Junior Selection Convener Dayle Hadlee has announced the Under-19 squad to compete in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka.
Fourteen players and three management staff will assemble at the New Zealand Cricket High Performance Centre at Lincoln University on Monday 23 January to prepare for the tournament, which will be contested from 5-20 February.
Two warm-up games against a Canterbury XI are scheduled, followed by pre-tournament matches against South Africa and West Indies ahead of the 16-team competition.
New Zealand face Pakistan, Bangladesh and Uganda in pool play, with the two top teams qualifying for the Super League knock-out section.
“The team is well balanced, offering coach Dipak Patel a range of options to suit the conditions and opposition," Hadlee said.
“There are five specialist batsmen (including a back-up wicket-keeper), two medium pace all-rounders, four pace bowlers, four spinners (including two top order batsman), and a specialist wicket-keeper.
“Three players have had recent First Class experience, Todd Astle and Hamish Bennett for Canterbury and Martin Guptill for Auckland.
“Although there are no stars in the team the all-round qualities of the squad should see it compete strongly in a difficult climatic and playing environment.”
New Zealand Under-19: Marc Ellison (Auckland, RHB, Captain), Todd Astle (Canterbury, RHB, RALS, Vice Captain), Dean Bartlett (Auckland, RHB, RAMF), Hamish Bennett (Canterbury, LHB, RAMF), Andrew De Boorder (Auckland RHB, RAM), Jason Donnelly (Auckland LHB. LAS), Nicolas Fitzgerald (Northern Districts LHB, WK), Shaun Fitzgibbon (Otago RHB, WK), Martin Guptill (Auckland RHB, RAOS), Roneel Hira (Auckland LHB, LAS), Ronald Karaitiana (Wellington RHB, RAM), Colin Munro (Auckland LHB, RAMF), Kieran Noema-Barnett (Otago LHB, RAM), Timothy Southee (Northern Districts, RHB, RAMF)
Non Travelling Reserves: Laren Guthrie (Otago LAMF), Sam McLeod (Northern Districts RHB, RAOS), Ben Stewart (Auckland RHB, RAMF)
Management: Dayle Hadlee (Manager), Dipak Patel (Coach), Shane Derry (Physiotherapist)

Ronald Karaitiana is the guy I have been talking about for a while. He is a very good player.

Only 1 Wellington player, a bit dissapointing. I thought a couple of others might have made it but oh well. Ronald was always the only certainty.

It seems very Auckland orientated. 7 players in the squad and a reserve. Sure they won the tournament but come on.

Is there a promising spin bowler coming through the ranks?
Astle is a very handy leggie (as seen by his seven wickets in the last match).

Who are the four pace bowlers he mentions?
My guess is the ones with "RAMF" in brackets next to their names... :p

Watch out for Dean Bartlett, he's very quick.

How quick are we talking? Was he just quicker than anyone else in Auckland and therefore stood out or genuinely special?

My mate has played 1st Grade with him at the Ellerslie club in auckland. He's extremely tall and even for his age, he's apparently alot quicker than anyone else around the club scene.

That sounds encouraging then.
