Well they have won 2, but New Zealand have still dominated the series, India have not dominated these matches. Remeber the 2 wins we have just seen India pull out of the hat were won whilst chasing, as have all the matches in this series. Let's see how they bat if they are put in. But better signs.

Excellent work from Sehwag.

He has scored two 100s in this series where the rest of the Indian lineup has come up with only one 50(Yuvraj Singh's 54 in the 5th match). That's quite impressive given the fact that the whole Indian batting lineup is down in the pits for this whole series.

Well he had to perform after his performance in the Tests (which before anyone says anything, I put down to him being asked to open in conditions which demand patience rather than exciting stroke play)

Yup everybody seems to be very impressed by him and he has a very very clean action for his pace. Also are the Speed meters measuring correctly? He seems to be bowling in low 140's and still everybody is getting beaten for his pace. They faced Harminson and Jones when they were in ENG and they were bowling near 145 and still no Indians had a problem there. Also Zaheer seems to be bowling in high 120's when he used to bowl in mid 130 to high 130's.

Just BTW, low 140's are near 145.

Bond's highest speed was 143 while Harminson and Jones were touching 146. Watching Bond bowl makes you feel he is in the 150's. The commentators also said that these machines are different and in some others he would record around the 150's.

Jones bowled Sehwag on his debut, beaten for pace, and Harmison picked up 5 Wickets on his debut in the next Test, and had Sachin in trouble with some fast short balls. The main reason the Indians were not beaten for pace more often was the slowness of the pitches.

how did the meters conflict (if they ever did) ?

The speed gun in NZ at times can be 5 k's or even as high as 8 km's slower than Australia's at times once a bowler starts clocking higher than 140 k's.

So in the last two ODI's Bond bowled deliveries of 146 k's, so in Australia that was probably around 152 km's which is a quick delivery.

Martin Crowe was offered the speed gun used by Channel 9 but I think he has a contract with the current company supplying them with the gun so we will continue to have these pace debates for awhile.

On another note, last night on my journey back from CHCH to Auckland I stopped in Hamilton for some dinner at Nando's and guess who walk in?
Tendulkar, Sehwag, Zaheer, Yuvraj, Agarkar & Kumble
So that was kind of a thrill for me although im sure them by the way they were dressed they were looking to avoid attention.

Could you explain what you mean? You've confuzzled me...:(
I meant the speed of the pitch was being measured or the one in the air. Thats what would determine the measurement.

how would you account for the difference in the guns Tim ?

I noticed after a Zaheer Khan delivery to which Styris chopped it down into the offside that the ball was timed at only 65 km's.
I also noticed in a previous match, possibly Napier that Ganguly bowled 3 balls that were were recorded at around 60 k's which even a 12 year old could better.

That does not seem right & I think that Sky Television may need to review this speed-gun once the contract is up.

Well with the use of Hawkeye it can tell both. Harmison was quick through the air but the lack of pace in the pitch took a lot of speed off once the ball hit it. Harmison bowled fast but the pitch slowed the ball down. On a pitch such as the WACA, the Indians would have been in trouble against Harmison much more often.

A couple of wins under the belt atlast. Great job, Sehwag, Srinath!!! What is making Tendulkar such a hesitant and unsure player over there? I would have thought he would have got into stride quicker than most even on pitches like these. Hopefully, these performances wouldn't have any impact on his performance in the WC. Come on, Sachin!!! One last chance for a good innings to take out of this miserable tour!

Now, do I reply individually to every post from the Terrace element that criticised my prediction then, and predicted thinks such as 5-2 India, or a close series?!

What's to be done with the likes of Ganguly (58 runs in 7 knocks) and Kaif (55 runs in 7 knocks)?

In fact last time before that that Ganguly played on non-sub Continent conditions he had a miserable time as well (149 in 7 knocks)

Doesn't bode well for WC 2003!
