Actually to be fair, A_B is one of the fairer posters that support India - along with a couple of others...

Not really, I prefer to keep him onside as he'll help quell the Terrace Crew (although events in NZ seem to have done that quite nicely ;) )

Hey Rik, did you read my looong post on the previous page? No response from you on that. After questioning my sanity and knowledge, why have you suddenly become silent? or maybe you finally figured out who is being clueless:P :P :P

That's the way he operates.... spit here and shout there and when everyone is out with the sticks.... just move on to something else to stir up.

Here's BBC's prediction on how its gonna go in the next India-NZ series in India in October'03

Dateline - Oct'03

Eager for revenge after a bowler-dominated series in New Zealand a year ago, India revoke their policy of producing pacy wickets, instructing their groundsmen to use sand liberally.

Spinners run through the Black Cap line-up, the three-Test series is over in three days, and the sides are left to get on with the serious business of the 21-match one-day international series.

I disagree. I think that with another good bowling option, New Zealand could have won. Think about it, Cairns came in for an allrounder (Oram) and an in form all rounder at that, and played as a specialist bat. In the end, New Zealand still lost.

If New Zealand decide to bring in another specialist bat, then the Kiwi attack may not be as threatening as it has been over the past year or so.
yeah.......

I know Cairns is currently playing as a batsman only, and I was the one to point out that he had the same role when NZ won the ICC Trophey in Kenya, but to me he is still primarily a bowling allrounder who can bat! His primary role in the team is to take wickets and he would be expected to bowl if he was fit.

To me there is still a vast difference to being a specialist batsman, where your primary / only role is to score runs! Further to this my preference would be for another opener / top order, as that is where the weakness is - the middle & lower order is over weighted with hitting allrounders.

Cairns is only in this role because:
a - he needs the game time;
b - there are no other specialist batsmen in the squad & he has the best batting credentials of the non=specialist batsmen.

Look at Ganguly at the moment, despite his previous record he's not consistantly scoring well, he has a few decent series then some horrid ones. I think Bazz told me that Ganguly averaged 22 in 2001 and 34 in 2003. Now he also averages 45 not as captain and 34 as captain. I think with young players like Kaif and Yuvraj and Dinesh Mongia (who I think is more of a 4 Day player than One Day one, he averages in the high 50s in Indian Domestic, which is probably aided by the good batting pitches and poor opposition but Ganguly only averages 41 or so in FC Cricket) that maybe if he keeps not performing it might be time to give a young player his chance, because Dravid looks a good potential captain. I would keep Ganguly in the ODI side, although I would have Sehwag and Sachin Opening with Ganguly at 3.

Ok I suppose he's not so bad against the moving ball, but look at his records in countries with pacey bouncy pitches like Australia and South Africa, he also averages only about 17 against the West Indies...I will change my statement to saying that he seems a bit suspect against teams with pacey bowlers who bowl quite a bit of short stuff.

Your wrong about my style though Aussie_Beater, my style is usually argue my point down to the ground...

But fair play you stuck with it, here I'll let you win this time ;)

a good match for the spectators going right down to the wire b4 India claim the victory :)

NZ should have learnt some lessons from this re their batting lineup & order:
- it's too late to try to convert Harris to a no 3 / 4 after 200+ games;
- Cairns should not bat any higher than 5;
- they need a competent opener - Sinclair & FLeming should be Tour emergencies in that role only (but I'd rather see Sinclair open than Fleming);
- Styris may be useful higher up the order if he isn't exposed too soon;
- Vincent followed the game plan;
- Bond showed why we do not need 4 or more all rounders in the team & could do with some specialist batsmen (who are in form);
- 200 runs was never going to be enough;
- the all rounders need some protection early on in the innings by the top order so they are not exposed too soon, then they can do what Styris showed.

From the bowling point of view:
- Adams was shown up in his first spell as being too fresh back from injury;
- Mills did well;
- concern re Bond not being able to bowl his compliment. I think he is trying too hard after his success in the VB Series last year & has lost some control & subtlety;
- good to see Harris bowling seamers as he originally did all those years ago;
- they are giving up at least 3 overs of extras which is not acceptable at this level - this was a factor in the Indian chase tonight!

While India won they must be disappointed a) that they let Bond & Vincent plunder the last 3 overs; b) that they nearly lost after being in command into the last 10 overs.

They can also count themselves lucky during this ODI series that the match refs have been lenient on them for their shabby time keeping - not only their over rates but they were also 5 mins late to start their innings!!!!

Now on to Hamilton for the last match......

India made a mess of it . They only required 18 runs with 7 wickets and 7 overs remaining but these things happen. They also got two wickets of no-balls. Also nobody really batted well except Sehwag and Vincent in this match. Maybe its got to do with the pitch or the form they are in. Also a very very goodwork done by the groundsman.
