*Official* New Zealand vs India Tests & ODIs

It was a bad day for Indian batting lineup, it happens 2 every team .Indian batters will hopefully do well in the second innings. But more importantly now Indian bowlers will have 2 get NZ out for a cheap total.

India has effectively lost the 1st test(unless NZ collapse for something below 200 which doesn't look likely given the potency of the Indian attack) and with it a chance of winning the series.

Wonderful knock by Dravid. For all who questioned the need for an anchor in a modern test team, this innings was proof that teams like India(and in fact most other teams except Australia) desperately need such men.

Wonderful bowling by Oram, Bond and Tuffey, once again fantastic batting by Dravid, he is India's BEST player abroad, and at home, no doubt about it.

Well done New Zealand, well done Dravid.
India have lost this game unless rain, or an Indian miracle intervenes.

hi y'all - just got home from work so I hadn't seen any of the game, let alone the score......

great effort by the Black Caps - I must admit I was a bit surprised to see the selection of both Styris & Oram.......
pleased to see all the seamers get amongst the wickets - outstanding job done by Tuffey (hopefully he can get his consistancy sorted this series).

Now some questions for the viewers -

1 - How was the pitch??? I know it had some grass on it & it had some bounce. Was it good bowling, bad batting or a devil of a pitch that undone India?????

2 - How have the NZ batsmen approached batting???? Same problems as India or just cautious & slow??????

3 - I see the Kiwis dropped 2 & left 2 in the slips - what was their overall effort like in the field?????

4 - I see Bond went for a bit & was unlucky with 2 dropped catches off him - how did he bowl - did he pose problems or was he not really a factor?????

5 - How have the Indian bowlers responded???????

6 - How was Fleming's Captaincy - did he have any obvious plan in the field or did the pitch do it for him?????

Congradulations to Dravid for his knock (I acknowledge the need for 'anchor' roles in every team including Australia, just not that it has to be a 'defensive' player - a moderate player can do the job just as well and accelerate the scoring when applicable - a 'defensive' player usually can't....... )

Well the bowlers have done their job - lets hope the batsmen score some runs as it would be unlikely for India to go so cheaply again!!!!

I am a bit concerned re Vincent out so cheaply again - I am not convinced that he is an opener........

Theoretically NZ should be able to have this Test in the bag by stumps on Day 2, but they have not played Test cricket since the WI tour, and India's batsmen can not be written off........

:D

I dont think India can blame the pitch, it was assisting the bowlers but Dravid proved it wasnt unplayable, it didnt look unplayable.
Vincent's wicket was a little unlucky, he just got a tickle on a legside ball.
Bond had a pretty poor opening spell but he bowled well in later spells, it was a pearler that got Laxman out.
Fleming's captaincy was good- he had plenty of plans, but wasn't tested or put under any real pressure.

Bond's delivery to Laxman was a ripper & a brilliant delivery to give him so soon after the lunch-break.

A good catch by Oram at the end aswell.

NZ will be looking to post 300 runs tommorow & then go from there.

lol well its going to be interesting to see how the Indian bowlers deal with the 100 km winds forecasted tommorow, yikes..i'd tell my captain to bugger off if he asked me to bowl into it.

The pitch should have lost all its demons by now & I think Fleming chose to bowl first for two reasons.

a) to get the only use of the short life it would have for the bowlers.
b) because once the pitch gets better, I doubt he'd want India chasing & would prefer to chase instead.

Despite the amount of chances going down which is unusual from the NZ fielders, I think Fleming looked to be back at his best with his tactics.

Harbhajan could have been dangerous but they knew he's not a good hooker of the ball & gave it to him straight away because he only knows 1 thing & thats to hit boundaries.

If the NZ bowlers get it right in the 2nd innings, because they looked far from their best & they set the fields right, we're in with a good chance IMO.

Now.. should we launch into unsubstantiated criticism based on one bad performance?

Or just enjoy the moment, I think.

AA will have to come down wind - with those ears, he'd never get to the crease bowling into it!

Looks like play will start late today after overnight rain. Also of note- some protestors have poured petrol on one of the bowlers run up at one end- they were protesting about war between Pakistan and India.

There isn't any war going on, hopefully play will resume soon.

India got to get NZ out for a total not more than 200-220, anything more than that will make things extremely difficult for Indian team

As usual in an away test match, the vaunted Indian batting lineup falls like a pack of cards at the first sign of some quick stuff.Just like at Lords earlier in the year against England, the Indian batsman fail to apply themselves to the situation and create a mess from which its almost impossible to salvage the match.

India has to first learn not to collapse like this, to even think of winning a series abroad. That's because if we claim that India's batting is its strength then the batsman have gotta prove it in matches like these and provide the much weaker bowling department to atleast have some buffer to work on, in trying to bowl the opposing team out.
