Just a guess - I've enjoyed the irony and how quickly he was exposed, though.
I have to say I think he was being ironic, but doesn't change the hypocritical way some people attacked him.

I wish umpires were 90% accurate but i doubt they are unless u take in wides and leg bye calls
I would suggest that they're actually above 90% accurate (not including the wides or leg byes)

"Australia captain Ricky Ponting has demanded a review of security arrangements for the tour of New Zealand after his players were pelted with missiles during Saturday's opening one-day match."

Just looked at James Marshall's Cricinfo profile, then looked at Hamish Marshall's. The resemblance is remarkable, I thought initially that the same picture had been used for both players. Made more sense when I looked at their birthdates and realised they were twins. :p

Even their FC and List-A records are very similar:

Hamish Marshall
FC - 2146 runs @ 27.51, 1x100, 11x50
List-A - 2672 runs @ 28.42, 2x100, 19x50

James Marshall
FC - 3051 runs @ 27.73, 4x100, 17x50
List-A - 1748 runs @ 28.19, 1x100, 10x50

In fact, looking purely at domestic statistics, I see no logical reason why James Marshall hasn't been picked for NZ when Hamish has. Anyone care to enlighten me? :)

They prolly both play for nz under the same name :P

Yeah, no player should ever really have stuff thrown at them.

And as for Hamish Marshall vs. James Marshall - maybe Hamish had a really good season just before he was selected? That's generally the way things go - one or two really good seasons rather than good career stats.

EDIT: Although it seems James has been great recently, so I woudln't see any harm in calling him up now.

Don't worry, marc's not exactly known for his happy nature nor his ability to laugh things off, but you get used to him... sort of. :p

The crowd situation has been blown out of proportion .

Few, if any, PLASTIC bottles were thrown at players.

I take it Ponting never visited Bay 13 when it was still there?

Its a bit rich for Aussies to complain about crowds given the reputation of their crowds for abuse. I read in the paper a while ago that Kyle Mills was encouraging our crowds to give the Aussies hell after all the abuse our guys copped over there.
Note that in no way am I condoning the throwing of objects at players

On the umpiring debate, I think the standard in general was quite bad for the match. In Australia's innings the calls generally went their way and in NZ's the calls (except Flemings) went a bit more our way.

Everyone has been having a bit of a go at Tuffey, and while I agree that he bowled badly in his first spell he bowled well at the death. He bowled a good length and (shock horror) managed to get the seam in a resemblance of a straight line. Because of this he got some reverse swing and the Aussies kept inside edging him.

And I cant believe we lost that game. Vettori needs to get his head read after playing a shot like that.

Katich deserved it after saying "**** your mom" to the crowd.
Did Katich really say that? If he did, I like him even less (which I didn't really think was possible!)

I was actually just finding him tolerable, but there is no way in hell a professional sportsman can justifiably respond like that in any situation.

Why is it such a problem when I complain about the umpires decision against Australia.

Lets look at what the kiwi fans had to say.

Fiery "That was so plumb it's not funny! Embarrasing display by Bowden so far today."

"Now he wides him when it hit Ponting's pad! It would have bowled him if it didn't hit his pad. Billy is a national disgrace."

Fiery again "I think the wide was called out of spite. Hope they drop Bowden for the rest of the series."

"Foot in the air. Another bad call"

"That LB was out too. Our old mate Billy again"

that decision from Bowden costing New Zealand.

Blackcapfan "What's up with billy today? Sleeping with his eyes open?"

Oh let me guess these comments are in the interset of improving the umpiring its only a problem if its an Australian fan who complains.
I was slagging off one of my own countrymen because he was having a woeful game. You thought I was Aussie-bashing. I wasn't. Bowden had a game to forget.

That innings by Marshall really gives him the edge ahead of the other candidates (Oram, McMillan, Vincent) for the Test 6 spot. Good to see how he can adjust his game according to the situation of the match. Started out as a 3, now a 5/6/7....
I was staggered by Marshall's innings last night. When he walked out I said to a mate "nah, Marshall's sh** on slow pitches like this." Then he started off with two 4's down the ground, and basically rammed it home to me that he's more than just dinky deflections. I guess in my defence his record against domestic spinners is still poor, and there was no Warne or Murali last night.

If Oram feels no discomfort while batting and gets in some hours at the crease for CD, his ton at the Gabba and test ave of 44 should make him automatic IMO. Regardless of whether it suits the order, it would still seem like a nonsense to me if Oram missed out and either Sinclair or Styris (guys who look uncomfortable against AUS 9 times out of 10) made it.

Just thinking about it, I wonder if the selectors will raise Marshall's name when they talk about Rigor's replacement. The potential middle-order is so congested that he may be told exactly what Sinclair and Vincent were - that the only vacancy is as a makeshift opener.
