He's had a pretty average series though. He had one good innings, and the rest of the time he has varied between decent and poor. Do you really think Lee would have only taken 8 wickets at over 30 in the series?
Well the way that Gillespie and Kasper have bowled this series i think they going to find it hard to keep Lee out of the side, but Lee needs to play some county cricket before the Test Series and have some success. Both have really only had one good bowling innings, not enough to keep their spot in the side IMO.

Martin has survived 5 balls now, hitting 2 of them! I'm in disbelief to be honest.

Kasprowicz' place will certainly be under threat if Lee has a decent run in the counties plus outbowls Kasper in the ODI series prior to the Ashes.

Well, I don't know what to say to that. I would put any amount of money on Lee doing a hell of a lot better than 8 wickets @ 30+ against New Zealand, given how completely hopeless they have been against him in the ODIs recently.

Hell, last New Zealand tour was three tests and against a stronger New Zealand side and he took 18 wickets @ 17.4, and he's a better bowler now than he was then.
And this series he has taken no wickets at no runs because he is not in the team. The rest is just speculation. I agree Kaspa has not been at his absolute best (don't forget Ponting dropped Astle early in his spell today), but neither has Gillespie, yet we are still on track to win the test series 2-0 with the second washed out.

I'll keep my faith in the selectors. If they think Lee deserves a shot in the ashes, so be it but pulling out stats from 4 years ago is pointless.

If you want real stats, Michael Clarke is second bottom in the batting averages and top of the bowling averages - what does that say?

Why not give Brad Hodge a shot in the ashes, because for me even though he had a fantastic debut series in India i think it all has just happened so fast for him, maybe giving a guy like hodge a chance who has loads of runs in domestic cricket over here & in australia wont be a bad option for the time being

He hasn't played any internationals, but he might get a run at the end of the ashes if Clarke doesn't find form.
