McCullum has been disapointing all summer time for him to step up.. as I type he falls LBW to Warne. The problem with him, I feel, is that there is no pressure on him from other keepers in the country. He is in his own league but unfortunatly he isn't putting any performances together and he is a real liability with the bat atm
Gareth Hopkins made 50 against the Sri Lankans yesterday but really, there's no other keeper pushing for the position now that Robbie Hart has retired. It's been a shame McCullum hasn't had the pressure on him, and that we don't have depth in wicket keeping, an important aspect of the game.

What a great catch by Katich!

New Zealand need to set at least 150 or so to be able to make a game of it.
Decent innings from Astle though, nice to see Nathan back amongst the runs so it was a shame to see Katich take a good catch to dismiss him.

150 is a minimum - if Franklin can stick around, which he has the potential to do, and with Vettori leading the charge, that's still a possibility. Wiseman's useful with the bat too.

Which delivery was this? The Gillespie appeal last over?

yeah, though i think it is about time that new zealand had a bit of luck. Astle played a really good innings, would have been good if he could go on to get 100, but hopefully Franklin and Vettori stick around and get our lead past the 100 mark

new zealand need to get a lead of 160 +, so that the bwolers have something to bowl too. we have 1 more batter who has talent after this partnership, but Franklin is looking good and I think he has a lot to prove with his batting at an international level.

decent 4 off the helmet :D nice work vettori
Well we'll take the runs in any way we can get them at the moment. Vettori going along very nicely, on 49 currently.

Nah, the Warne appeal. Pitched in the rough outside the left-handers off stump, kept low and turned in fairly sharply, hit him in front of middle and off and would have clearly hit the stumps. The only possible reason it could have been not out was if it hit outside the line, which I think the umpire believed it did, but replays showed it did not.

Speaking of Warne, how about that ball last over? Almost landed off the pitch and would have probably hit the stumps, one of the sharpest turners I've ever seen.

Vettori's a tall man, if the delivery struck Hamish Marshall in the same area it might've been given - add in the angle around the wicket from Gillespie and I struggle to see why it should've been out.
