In fact, at various times the counties have played over 65,60,55,50,45 and 40 overs.
65 must have been the early seasons of the Gillette Cup. Perhaps the striking thing about that is that they were expected to bowl 130 overs in one day and, presumably, they did.

Can't sleep ahead of RWC opener vs France. That's a terrible side NZ picked for the cricket though. Nicholls in the team, and at 3!?! And that bowling attack!

They really should have a decent look at Livingstone's bowling today, especially on this track. No point in leaving it until the WC, and there's not a lot to be lost in today's game even if he doesn't work. As it stands, NZ should coast home in 45 overs max.

Indeed, though the first two years only before they found it too long.

Going further back though, if you look at pre war Wisdens, overs were regularly bowled at 20-23 overs per hour as a matter of course.

Bit hard to time but the outfield is lightning fast and the boundaries are small. NZ looking well placed to chase this. The questions over England's bowling loom.

Given that Atkinson doesn't even play List A cricket for Surrey we might have to tone down our expectations in this format.

Either England bowling rubbish or this wicket has lost its two paced nature. Suspect a bit of both. Nothing sticking in the pitch at all now though.

The returning coward sucked the momentum out of England's innings
