Brilliant batting from Strauss. His composure has been exceptional throughout; he plays each ball on its merits and doesn't allow himself to worry about what happened in the last ball/over. Similar to Richardson in that sense, except that he uses his bat more than his body.

What attacking positions are set up on the field?
Two slips for both batsmen - fielders on the offside are fairly close but not really close enough to save the single. Hussain sneaks a single to mid-off as I type. This is for Martin btw. Vettori gets a slip, bat pad, short leg and a short backward square something.

for Martin,
2 Slips, deep gulley or backward point, conventional 6-3 field to both.

for Vettori,
Slip, silly point, forward and backward short leg, the rest 'spread out lads' to Strauss.
none close on the leg side to Hussain

Would it not be worth putting someone in close for Vettori, similar to Hussain's position for Giles?

EDIT: Cheers Ed.
EDIT AGAIN: Oh, Adam added in while I was quoting, too. Go figure. :P

Possibly a little unfair?

He bowled quite superbly for a while this morning, could have had Strauss, should have had Butcher but was then taken apart by Hussain's footwork.

Back into the attack now - this spell is key to the match, I reckon.
I don't think its unfair. A decent bowler he might be; but he just doesn't get wickets often enough.

Standing ovation for 100 partnership.

Can you request an extra half an hour if you think you can win it from there? Used to be able to I seem to remember.

Nope.

What you get is 90 overs in the day. When the 76th is started or after 5 hours play, whichever is the later, you then get a minimum of 15 overs in the last hour (to avoid teams trying to slow things down to salvage a draw)

Were you ever able to request it if both captains agreed? Or am I just away with the fairies?

Strauss run out by Hussain. Bugger, feel sorry for the guy.

Unlucky Strauss. Might have made it if he responded to Hussain's call immediately, but really there was no need to take such a tight single at this stage in the game.

Someone let me know when it would be a good time to hang my head in my hands, I'm losing hope and fast. =/ That 200/2 may have been a long way off before, but it's not anymore. We (NZ'ers) need this test to do a magical turn again.

EDIT: Wow, it worked.

I wouldn't hold your head now.

Talk on radio that Hussain should have forsaken his wicket for the good of the team as Strauss was looking sooo good.

If Strauss could have made that, Harvey could have made the run in the VB series (right Andre?)

No matter who is involved, or what form of cricket is being played, everytime someone gets run out after not responding fast enough I think of Donald and Klusener. Tragic. :(

Strauss made sure that he sacrificed his wicket.

1. It was his call
2. It keeps the l-r combination.

A shame, though. We were about half an hour away from a quite magical moment.
